@IndexSabot Of course, the standard Irish we have is ok for learning it and that should be the national aim, but the general idea is that when proficient enough you pick a dialect and learn it. There's also a major problem with pronounciation thats taught in schools
@IndexSabot Definitely dialects. They show how unique and beautiful the language is in their own ways. Id hate the idea of speaking a fake language. Its no wonder barely anyone speaks it tho, the school system hasn't worked at all over the past decades I agree + no incentives from govt
@BritishTaiga@South_Down_IP Habakkuk 2:5-6: "He opens his mouth as wide as the grave, and like death, he is never satisfied. He gathers all the nations to himself and claims all the peoples as his own.. Woe to him who piles up stolen goods and makes himself wealthy by extortion!"
@BritishTaiga@South_Down_IP "Freedom and liberty" in the form of pitch-capping, starvation, rape, concentration camps, subjugation etc. But the British Empire stopped doing something it was doing for ages, so that means the British Empire was good, trust me bro.
@BritishTaiga@South_Down_IP Ireland provided valuable intel for the war effort and more Irishmen fought for the allies than some European resistance movements combined, but sure, I'm the embarrassed one. Not you, who supports the British Empire.
@BritishTaiga@South_Down_IP Regardless, the slave trade continued in other parts of the empire
2) Fair trade
3) Ireland was struggling to recover from the devastating effects of British rule. It was not industrialised and most lived in poverty. It was 17 years independent, had no infrastructure or army.
@BritishTaiga@South_Down_IP To conclude, it is an undeniable fact that the British Empire was rotten to the core, no matter how many inventions you bring to try and change that. A nation that once preferred death over submission is unlikely to buy the cheap courtesies of those who profited from its despair.
@BritishTaiga@South_Down_IP I'll ask again. Do you believe in the self determination of countries? Do you approve of the British Empire's invasions and occupations of countries, thereby eliminating that self determination? You can't have one or the other.
@BritishTaiga@South_Down_IP If your country had barbaric things done to it for nearly a millenia you wouldn't exactly look at the institution that caused it through rose tinted glasses, would you?
@BritishTaiga@South_Down_IP What possibly could alter the moral balance, when the British empire went around the world killing, raping, pillaging, exploiting, colonising, invading, and destroying all in the name of profit? What part of that is not evil? Do tell.
@BritishTaiga@South_Down_IP Why should we, the Irish people in today's age, offer to forgive when British imperialists still cling on to their delusions of grandeur? To scraps of an empire that is long dead? As it stands, Ireland owes nothing to Britain because of this.
@BritishTaiga@South_Down_IP Yes, we could easily forgive provided imperialists acknowledge that the British Empire as an evil institution committed morally detestable acts on a colossal scale and realise their obsession with it is profoundly wrong, and offer to reconcile with us.
@BritishTaiga@South_Down_IP Lets distinguish forgiving and forgetting. Forgiving is far less difficult than trying to forget nearly a thousand years of history.
The issue is, as I said before, some of these descendants spout propaganda. It's up to them to learn the truth and acknowledge the past's crimes.
