I THOUGHT LAB SCIENTISTS JUST “COLLECT BLOOD”… UNTIL I TRIED THEIR JOB. 😂😭
As a medical student, you enter the laboratory with confidence.
White coat? ✔
Stethoscope? ✔
Confidence? Overflowing. 😂
Then the lab scientist looks at you and says:
“Doctor, since you’re free, help us with these samples.”
I smiled.
“Simple work.”
My ancestors started laughing immediately. 😭
First assignment:
“Arrange these blood samples.”
I picked one tube.
Then another.
Five minutes later…
All the tubes started looking like twins.
I couldn’t even remember which one I picked first. 😂
Next they said:
“Take this sample to the centrifuge.”
I carried it like it was a newborn baby.
I switched on the centrifuge.
The machine started making one serious sound.
I stepped back immediately.
In my mind I had already written my apology letter to the Head of Department. 😭💀
Then came malaria RDT.
Simple, abi?
Until they asked:
“Where’s the control line?”
I started staring at the cassette like WAEC practical.
The cassette was looking at me too.
Both of us were confused. 😂
Then urinalysis.
I finally understood that urine has more personalities than some human beings.
Color.
Appearance.
Protein.
Glucose.
Ketones.
Blood.
Leukocytes.
Nitrites.
Specific gravity.
By the time they finished explaining everything…
I was the one that needed investigation. 😭
Then somebody shouted:
“Who packed this sample?”
Everybody looked at me.
Even the microscope looked disappointed. 😂
Meanwhile…
The lab scientist was just sitting quietly.
No panic.
No shouting.
Just watching me experience premium character development.
Finally he said:
“My brother… go back to your ward.”
I didn’t argue.
I carried my remaining dignity and left.
That’s when I realized something.
Doctors can suspect malaria.
But the lab scientist confirms it.
Doctors can suspect typhoid.
But the lab scientist tells you if you’re chasing the wrong diagnosis.
Doctors can prescribe treatment.
But someone has to produce results everyone can trust.
People think laboratory scientists just “collect blood.”
If only they knew.
Behind every accurate diagnosis are people checking, verifying, repeating tests, maintaining equipment, controlling quality, and making sure one tiny mistake doesn’t change someone’s life.
So the next time you see a medical laboratory scientist quietly working in the lab…
Respect them.
Because while everyone is debating the diagnosis…
They’re busy looking for the evidence.
And in medicine…
Evidence wins. 🧪❤️
To all Medical Laboratory personnel—thank you for being the silent backbone of healthcare. We see you, and we appreciate you. 👏🏽

When people doubt that life in Uganda is expensive, they should try being a boyfriend or husband in Kampala trying to satisfy today's women.
A typical man in this city lives under endless tension, chasing a target that never stays still. Whether he is a boss in Kololo or a hustler in Kasokoso makes no difference. It also makes no difference whether she is his wife at home or a girl he met recently in a nightclub around Industrial Area.
Sit at any pork joint on Tuesday, go to a fancy bar on a rooftop, or board a taxi heading to Mukono, you will hear the identical lament. Men here are tired. The biggest reason is that pleasing a Kampala lady feels like an impossible mission.
To comprehend these ladies, from campus girls to long-time lovers, you need to understand that their material demands rise quicker than any salary can match. Many treat a sincere, modest budget as disrespect.
Should a guy rent a nice two-bedroom in Kisaasi, his partner will scroll through TikTok clips of mansions in Kira all weekend and make him feel like a failure. Should he purchase a Toyota Wish to save her from taxis, she will not appreciate the gesture. Instead she will question why he didn't buy a Forester or Benz that fits her class.
This endless craving now goes beyond vehicles and rentals. Plenty of ladies now want a completely new look, and that drains wallets heavily. A man might kiss a dark-complexioned partner goodbye in the morning and come back in the evening to find she has bleached herself using costly lotions and injections bought while he was at work.
For wealthier men, the price jumps to cosmetic trips abroad. Flying to Turkey or Egypt for a BBL has turned into a prestige badge. The painful joke is that he finances an operation to shape her figure for TikTok attention, while he still owes money for his small piece of land in Sonde. Even more painful, he pays to beautify someone who might use that new beauty to hunt for a richer sponsor.
Under Kampala's unwritten dating laws, being broke is treated like a sin. When his earnings fall, the atmosphere inside the house shifts instantly. Meat disappears, replaced by plain vegetables served with attitude. If the financial struggle continues, she starts planning her departure. Girlfriends suddenly become occupied with church, workshops, or sick relatives while secretly searching online for another provider. Cohabiting partners deny intimacy and begin telling friends they are wasting their prime years.
Social media has worsened everything through what people here call "plot culture." Ladies measure their lives against influencers' edited lives and insist on similar getaways at Lake Victoria hotels, regardless of reality. A career woman may earn a good salary herself but still expects the boyfriend to clear rent, utilities, and food, while her income goes to weaves, trips, and personal savings. If he requests support during a tough season, he is dismissed as soft.
In low-income zones like Kasokoso, ladies use endless nagging as a strategy. They think praising a man will make him lazy or cheat, so they keep him anxious about money. Even younger girlfriends will beg for emergency transport or internet cash, then vanish and resurface sporting fresh nails and expensive wigs.
The outcome is clear. Bars become crowded as early as 4 p.m. on weekdays. They aren't simply drinking spots. They serve as sanctuaries where men run away from nagging, threats, and thankless effort at home. There they get relief from knowing every fellow at the table battles similar struggles.
The crucial puzzle is when did the definition of "a good man" shift from being reliable and present to being a magician performing miracles inside a broken economy? Women argue that expensive life needs ambition. Men answer that ambition cannot survive inside a home lacking thankfulness.
Until ladies match big demands with genuine appreciation, bars will remain packed.

From the recently concluded LC1 elections, I was appointed Defence. 😅
Today, my first assignment has arrived: I have been sent to bring my girlfriend, who reportedly had a disagreement with a neighbour over a mingling stick. 😂
Leadership is not for the weak!.
