April 14, 1942. Fort du Hâ. YCW apprentice. In the struggle since 1940. He finishes a letter: "Writing to my mother for the last time is an ordeal for me, a nerve-wracking struggle to keep from crying." Ernest Lombart was shot shortly after. 21 years old.
