This time has yet to be different.

Widespread literacy was a short lived human phenomenon

[Paul Graham @paulg]

We're about to enter a period where not reading or writing becomes as ubiquitous as smoking once was. We can hope people will eventually realize this is bad for them, as they did with smoking. But this is far from certain; the cost may not be as obvious.

[Austin Johnson @AustinAI]

@unusual_whales Why not throw in New York and New England while were at it?

Just do a search and replace for every name that originates from another country and fill in America.

@MattWalshBlog Social Security isn't a pension, it is insurance. Specifically, it is "Old Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance".

You do not "pay into Social Security" anymore than you "pay into" your auto or health insurance.

Social security is actuarially insolvent insurance.

JUST IN: 🇺🇸 US boomers overwhelmingly support higher taxes on younger workers to maintain current Social Security benefits, poll shows.

Why horizontal tabs?

Vertical is navigation. Organizational. Hierarchical. A tree. It's "history". You don't need it on screen all the time.

Horizontal is the working set. The threads that are live. Always visible. Give it icons, colors, status. Context at a glance.

In apps like ChatGPT, Claude Code or T3 Code, horizontal space is expensive. Tabs at the top let you tuck away the sidebar and leave more room for the right panel: preview, browser, code view.

And you still see what's running, what's done, what needs your input.

[Austin Johnson @AustinAI]

@WatcherGuru Couldn't he at least stick to the re-naming convention and go with "American Intelligence" so we can keep the acronym?
