This cool website shows the origin of county/parish names. But it looks like they switched Jefferson (near New Orleans) and Jefferson Davis (western part of the state) Parishes in #Louisiana. Jefferson was named after Thomas Jefferson in 1825. https://t.co/N8Q8v3Yw1t

Penny and I spent a day in June in the Healdsburg area. Started off hiking the Healdsburg Ridge Open Space Preserve and then rewarded ourselves with BBQ brisket at Kinsmoke in the center of town. It's the best BBQ we've found in all of California.

Apr 30 - We're in Vienna. It's Sunday before their Labor Day. Everyone is out. Ringstraße lined with stately buildings from the 1800s. Crowds at Schönbrunn Palace were overwhelming. Still a gorgeous site. Boat passes through Bratislava, Slovakia on its way to Budapest.

Apr 29 - We tour Melk Abbey in Austria today. The library rooms with their frescos are impressive enough. But the church there is the most striking we've seen in Europe. In the afternoon on the boat we cruise through the Wachau Valley on the Danube River.

Apr 28 - Today's excursion is Český Krumlov, Czechia. CK only has about 12,000 people, but is surprisingly the second most visited city in Czechia. The town is dominated by the very large Český Krumlov Castle. This town turned out to be one of the pleasant highlights of our trip.

Apr 27 - In Regensburg, Germany. Boat is docked next to Königliche Villa near center of town. Lunch is at Wurstkuchl, the oldest continuously operating restaurant in the world (1135). We walk and bike for miles on our own after our walking tour of the city.

Apr 26 - River cruise has begun! Today's excursion is to the city of Roth, Germany. First stop was at an old family blacksmith shop which is now run as a working museum. Next up was at a "hunting castle" in town. The artwork inside was worthy of a castle many times its size.

Apr 21: Went to Nuremberg. Had a few days to explore until our cruise. Rebuilt post WWII in its traditional form very nicely. Hotel room's balcony looked up to Castle, providing a great view. Sausages at Bratwursthäusle bei St. Sebald (since 1312) were the best in Germany.

A few photos from our recent trip to Europe. Spent several days in Trier, Germany. We visited spots Penny's grandfather walked during World War II. This included the Roman era bridge spanning the Moselle River he captured before it could be destroyed.
