This is my final tweet for the course! It was a pleasure exchanging tweets with everyone. It was a lot of fun seeing the replies to my tweets. I hope everyone does well on the final quiz! Stay safe and Goodluck with the rest of the semester! #Educ307
I think the more we are connected globally, the more we can do to make a difference. By being able to exchange ideas through different cultures well have more ideas on how we can all change. Different cultures that are less fortunate can see what they are missing and fight for it
@ftheo_educ307 Honestly when thinking about this, it sounds right. I often read about movements on social media but won’t actually do anything about it. And although I’d support it, reading something on social media doesn’t mean I’d actually go out and try to make a difference
@MGiaccari Social media is a great for movements because it’s very easy for new people to see the movement and join along. People from all over the world can join a movement over social media unlike before when movements were done over newspapers or local protest
@NanaKor23317759 I think it would be more concerning if you refuse to identify as a feminist. It’s 2020... how could you be against equal rights between genders. When someone says they don’t support feminist it blows my mind but I think it’s because they don’t understand the actual definition
@Angelaxpereira1 Although in theory that sounds very smart, do you really want to be the one that pauses a movie to break down the scenes explaining what is right and wrong? The kids might get annoyed since they just want to watch the movie for entertainment purposes
@ftheo_educ307 I haven’t watched any of their newer movies but they definitely have a lot of work to do just considering how bad it once was. It won’t be something done over night but hopefully over a few years they can make progress
@RebecaYJN And kids who watch this wouldn’t be able to see that like you and I. They might think that they can kiss whoever they want without the need for consent based on what they watch since they are so vulnerable
One of the only Disney movies I watched as a child was Aladdin and I definitely didn’t see all the sexist and stereotypical scenes in the movie. The documentary definitely changed that and if I ever re watched it I’m sure I wouldn’t be able to watch it the same way #Lesson11
I never really watched Disney movies yet I know how plenty of the movies go such as Cinderella and Snow White. Without even watching the movies, Disney still has an impact on me. They has this effect on kids everywhere even if they don’t watch the movies #Lesson11
I feel that when people think of Disney they often just think about Disney world or some of their movies but they are so much more than that. They have such a big role in the media and are a lot more powerful than the average person thinks they are. #Lesson11
Talking about my enrollment in women rights courses, whenever I told someone that I was taking the class I often got weird responses. The responses would usually include a laugh with remarks such as “that’s a joke right” These people should probably join me in the class #Lesson10
As a male with mostly male friends, I see first hand the way they speak about females... it’s disturbing. I was lucky enough to take multiple women rights courses in my past and I feel if they were mandatory, it would help my friends see what they’re saying is wrong #Lesson10
I feel that the word feminism is often misunderstood. The movement isn’t trying to get more rights for women over men, it’s to have equal rights between women and men. #Lesson10
@padar_educ307 It gets even worse depending what field they are in. For example women who cover sports in the media are scrutinized non stop. Some of the comments I see in the comment sections are extremely disturbing.
@LaurenG66964314 I think a lot of teens don’t realize that once they put something online it stays forever even if they delete it as well as they don’t actually know who will see the post. A small mistake now on a post can have big consequences later on in life when they aren’t a teen anymore
I think the best way for schools to handle online safety is to have a firewall that blocks certain sites on their internet. This way they don’t have to monitor and invade the students privacy but also are protecting the students. #Lesson9
Although schools have an obligation for safety, I think watching what students do online is a total invasion of privacy. There has to be a level of trust between the students and school and this invasion of privacy shows none. #Lesson9
@MGiaccari Just a theory here but I feel like they make them long and hard to reason on purpose. They definitely prefer if all the users didn’t read them...
With that said, if you want to be more private on social media, instead of worrying about your privacy settings, you’re better off not posting anything. This way you don’t have to worry at all about who’s looking at your profile #Lesson9
