@Arthur32081308@russellatte SM mode isn't a big deal but Merc is good at aero efficiency. They get some of this by having a stiff car with long gears that excels at smooth high speed tracks like Silverstone but suffer at bumpy and slow tracks like Singapore (ex. 2015). Monaco is a bumpy and slow tracks.
@AnalyticaCamil1 I’m not saying all data centers are perfectly clean and by the book but I think most data centers are run by companies with a reputation they don’t want to lose and enough money to actually deal with their sewage which is again <1% of costs.
@AnalyticaCamil1 They own and operate the infrastructure at the vast majority of these places. Only about 20% are colos where other companies handle it.
@AnalyticaCamil1 Most FAANGs own and operate their compute its literally their business. Only Apple and Netflix lease the bulk of their compute, which goes to you guessed it, GCP & AWS respectively. Openai, Anthropic etc shovel money to FAANGs for their compute.
@AnalyticaCamil1 These cashed up big tech companies are already under so much scrutiny it wouldn't make sense for them to expose themselves politically over <1% of data center costs.
Other industries ex. mining illegally dump because wastewater processing is like >10% of expenditures.
@AnalyticaCamil1 Most (not all) data centers use evaporative cooling meaning ~75% of their water consumed turns to vapor which doesn't pollute. The blowdown gets sent to local sewer systems (which they pay for) so it does get filtered. Anything else would violate NPDES.
@JamesRaxz Bigger budgets aren't going to win a war with China unless we improve the efficiency of our industrial base. On shells, China can probably crank out shells 2-3x cheaper than we can. Ofc bigger budgets will improve some of the base but we need to do more than just bigger budgets.
