The moment of truth - #IACC is trying to move towards a vote on the Strategic Plan. Judith Cooper, from National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, is raising the concern that many federal members had no opportunity to read the written comments - just AI
They are moving to a vote. Once again, they are using Zoom polling. This does not allow the public to see who is voting how. A massive problem, and they have still not provided voting records from the last meeting
Christina Chacon from Administration for Health Research and Quality is also expressing concern that many of these federal programs have no budget. Dr. Fogel simply responding that she's willing to lobby for more resources.
(From TPGA's bluesky) Alison Marvin also weighing in from Social Security Administration - they had been given partial responsibilities for initiative on "HCBS, Medicaid, Transition, and Caregiver-Succession Alignment" and they simply don't have involvement in housing planning.
Addressing Judith Cooper's concern about budget items, Dr. Fogel suggests creating an "additional budget" of $12 million to support communication domain (note - the overall budget they're proposing is $633 million - so $12 million is less than you'd think)
(From TPGA's bluesky)#IACCAugust2026#IACC discussing Part V of the Strategic Plan for autism research - "Life Course Domains" - the section addressing services and supports, housing, communication, everything other than biomed
One good suggested revision - adding a recommendation for exploring options to let autistic adults remain in existing family housing following death of a caregiver. Great idea. At the risk of repeating myself... WHERE IS THE FUNDING?
