As someone who has survived medical school, here’s my reality check.
My Top 15.
1. You cannot cram medicine.
If you try to read 6 months’ work in 2 weeks, medical school will humble you publicly.
2. Consistency beats intelligence.
The average student who reads 2–3 hours daily will outperform the genius who waits for “motivation.”
3. Past questions are not optional.
They are the closest thing you have to prophecy.
4. Your first year determines your foundation.
Anatomy and physiology are not just courses - they are your future explanations to patients.
5. Group reading only works if everyone actually wants to read.
If it turns into gist and vibes, leave.
6. Sleep is part of your study plan.
A tired brain reads 10 pages and remembers 2.
7. You will fail something at least once - and it won’t define you.
But how you respond will.
8. Clinical years are a different battlefield.
Confidence, communication, and presentation skills can carry you even when your knowledge shakes.
9. Your colleagues are your future referrals.
Don’t make unnecessary enemies. Medicine is smaller than you think.
10. You don’t have to understand everything at once.
Medicine is a spiral. You’ll revisit topics until they click.
11. Learn to ask questions early.
Silence in ward rounds doesn’t make you smart; it makes you invisible.
12. Comparison will steal your peace.
There will always be someone who reads faster, answers quicker, and scores higher.
13. Your mental health matters.
Burnout is real. Depression in medical school is common but rarely discussed.
14. Practical skills matter.
Know how to take blood, cannulate, examine properly - theory alone won’t save you in House Job.
15. Remember why you started.
On the days you want to quit, purpose is stronger than pressure.

Lassa fever is a serious viral illness that occurs every year in Nigeria, especially during the dry season. It can affect anyone—children, adults, health workers, and entire families—but early action saves lives.
𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐋𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐚 𝐟𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫?🤷🏽♂️
Lassa fever is caused by a virus carried by the multimammate rat (Mastomys rat). Humans become infected when they:
1. Eat food or drink water contaminated with rat urine or droppings
2. Touch household items or surfaces contaminated by rats
3. Have close contact with the blood, urine, vomit, stool, or other body fluids of an infected person

Symptoms may start 1–3 weeks after infection and can be mild at first, which is why many people delay seeking care.

HOW TO REDUCE CANCER RISK. PART 1 (Evidence-Informed)
1. Vitamin D
Adequate vitamin D status is associated with improved immune regulation and may play a role in cancer risk modulation.
2. Cold exposure (cold showers/ice baths)
Can improve metabolic health and mitochondrial efficiency; indirect benefits can support cellular resilience.
3. Intermittent fasting
Improves insulin sensitivity, reduces chronic inflammation, and will enhance cellular repair mechanisms (autophagy).
4. Avoid charred foods
Burnt or charred portions of meat contain carcinogenic compounds (e.g., heterocyclic amines, PAHs).
5. Avoid unnecessary radiation exposure
CT scans and X-rays should be used judiciously; cumulative ionizing radiation increases cancer risk.
6. Adequate folate intake
Folate deficiency impairs DNA repair and increases genomic instability. Sources include dark green leafy vegetables and animal liver.
7. Methylene blue (emerging evidence)
It has a pigment that absorbs free radicals from the electrons that are being generated in the mitochondria.
8. Prolonged fasting
Fasting states may slow cancer cell proliferation; clinical application requires caution and supervision.
9. Carnivore Diet/ ketogenic dietary patterns
May reduce hyperinsulinemia and insulin resistance—metabolic states linked to cancer risk.
10. Avoid frequent snacking
Persistent insulin spikes promote metabolic dysfunction and chronic inflammation.
11. Omega-3 fatty acids
From fish oil or cod liver oil; reduce systemic inflammation and may have protective effects.
12. Avoid excessive iron supplementation
Cancer cells utilize iron for proliferation; iron should only be supplemented when clinically indicated.
13. Selenium (dietary sources)
Found in seafood, poultry, and meat; supports antioxidant systems that neutralize oxidative damage.
14. Magnesium
Essential for DNA repair, mitochondrial function, and metabolic health.
Important note:
This list addresses modifiable risk factors associated with certain cancers.
It does not eliminate cancer risk, replace screening, or substitute for medical care.
TIPS FOR PARENTS: HOW TO MANAGE DIARRHOEA IN CHILDREN
Diarrhoea affects children more severely than adults because they lose fluids faster, which can quickly lead to dangerous dehydration—especially in infants and toddlers.
Most cases are caused by viruses (like rotavirus), so antibiotics like flagyl aren't needed and won't help. The key is preventing dehydration and supporting your child until it resolves on its own.
Here are practical tips for managing diarrhoea at home:
1. Focus on rehydration: The biggest risk is dehydration, which can cause serious issues like kidney problems. Give plenty of fluids—water is good, but Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) is best as it replaces lost salts and electrolytes.
2. Use ORS correctly: Plain water alone isn't enough sometimes. Prepare ORS exactly as instructed on the sachet (use clean water and the right amount—usually 1 litre per sachet). Improper mixing can be harmful. Give small, frequent sips, even if your child vomits (wait 10 minutes and try again slowly).
3. Continue feeding: DO NOT stop breastfeeding or regular feeding. Offer safe, well-prepared foods and continue breastfeeding—it helps recovery and doesn't worsen diarrhoea.
4. Add zinc supplements: For children with diarrhoea, zinc can shorten the illness and reduce severity (recommended by WHO).
5. Avoid antidiarrhoeal medicines: These (like loperamide) are NOT recommended for infants and young children—they can be dangerous and cause complications.
6. Most viral diarrhoea resolves on its own: With good rehydration and nutrition, it usually runs its course in a few days.
Always consult a doctor if you're unsure—early help can prevent complications. Handwashing and rotavirus vaccination are great ways to prevent it!

HAPPY 2026 NIGERIANS!
A successful 2026 will only be possible with good health. Here are some tips on how to stay fit to create those success stories in 2026.
1. Stay vaccinated against HBV, females get your HPV shots, don't forget about the tetanus toxoid shot after a dirty wound and rabies immunoglobulin when bitten by a dog.
2. Malaria prevention: malaria killed about 190,000 Nigerians in 2024 alone, prevent it while you can buy using insecticide treated nets, repellents, and clear stagnant water.
3. Typhoid, cholera and so many other diseases can be easily prevented by washing our hands frequently, drinking clean water and using clean toilets. Washing our fruits and vegetables with running water can go a long way in preventing typhoid fever.
4. Eat balanced meals: country hard but bad health is worse. Eat our commonly grown fruits/vegetables (like ogwu, spinach, okra, mango, oranges), proteins (soya beans, fish, eggs, meat), our staples (yam, rice, cassava). Limit sugars, and processed food (natural food always beats man made food).
5. Stay Hydrated: drink 3 litres of clean water everyday and pee when you feel like it. Spare yourself the unimaginable pain of kidney stones.
6. Exercise regularly: it helps control stress, blood pressure and weight
7. Stick to one sexual partner within the confined of marriage, use proper and adequate protection if you must, abstinence remains the best for us singles.
8. Drink alcohol responsibly or better more DON'T TAKE ALCOHOL.
9. The "smokers are liable to die young" written on cigarette pack no be advertisement na warning! DON'T SMOKE OR QUIT SMOKING!
10. Have a good relationship with the divine, be joyful because "A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones." Proverbs 17:22 NIV

Avascular necrosis to the doctor is a diagnosis.
Avascular necrosis to you may mean nothing.
To Orbem, it means becoming immobile after walking for over 20 years.
And not becoming a doctor after studying at medical school for 4 years.
But with N1000, avascular necrosis would be another challenge that Orbem overcame.

LONG PRAYERS...
"ALL NIGHT" is not just a Nigerian cliché for prayer vigils. It is a phrase lifted straight out of scripture. In context, it truly is about prayer. Here:
"... He (Jesus) went out to the mountain to pray, and continued ALL NIGHT in prayer..." – Luke 6:12
While we may debate on what to say ALL NIGHT in prayers, let's first agree that long prayer, like ALL NIGHT prayer, is normal, or at least, SHOULD be normal. Jesus prayed long, often. A casual reading of the gospels would confirm this.
Saints, pray o!
Pray long. Pray often.
Even if you can't pray for long for starters, pray frequently. Take small prayer breaks out of your long, busy days. 5mins. 15mins. Even 3 minutes. As often as possible. If that would be too disruptive, maybe because of the nature of your day job, then when you take your legitimate break, donate a good portion of it to prayer. For most people, combining 3, 5 minutes of prayer intermittently with work wouldn't be impossible.
David said: "evening, and morning, and at noon will I pray, and cry aloud..."
Saint. Pray! Do it often.
PROPOSAL
Take time to pray in the morning. Then, use these proposed ongoing but intermittent prayer shots to keep your 'prayer coals' fresh and hot.
PRACTICALLY..
This habit will help deepen your sense of God's presence, which will, in turn, boost faith, strengthen your convictions, and overall make you more godly, less susceptible to yielding to temptation, etc.
Saint, pray o!
And, you can never pray too much, because you can pray while doing a whole lot of other things.
PERSONALLY
Sometimes, I just call His name, but it is actually myself I am summoning 'before Him.' It is me, calling me to consciously recognise His hereness, not just His nearness. Doing so, calling His name, changes me, resets the atmosphere around me, for me. I regain the conscious sense that I stand, even now on holy ground. Everything else take their value from that standpoint, for me. O, the strength of His voice... the fellowship of His face!
To keep your lovely face
Ever before my eyes... 🎵 🎶 🎵
Saint. Now. Whisper a prayer. 🙏🏼
@Gidi_Traffic 3. Actions have repercussions. Adam and Eve were simply receiving the reward for their actions.
4. God sending them out of the garden was an act of mercy. If they ate of the tree of life in that fallen state, they would have been eternally damned, just like the devil.
@Gidi_Traffic 1. God didn’t just forgive Adam and Eve
He actually took responsibility for their actions by sending Jesus to die for the sins of man
2. It was God who clothed them when they realized they were naked. Does that sound like someone who didn’t forgive?
COALITION OF INDIGENOUS YOUTH PRESIDENTS FOR ETHNIC NATIONALITIES, NASARAWA STATE. OBSERVED THE NOMADIC FULANI VIGILANTE GROUP AS A SYSTEMATIC MOVE BY MIYETI ALLAH TO INSTITUTIONALIZE AND INTERNALIZE FULANI MILITIA GROUPS IN THE STATE.
PRESS STATEMENT
DATE: 19TH JANUARY, 2024
Protocols:
Distinguished ladies and gentlemen,
We, the Nasarawa State Ethnic Nationalities congratulates HE. Engr A A Sule and HE. Dr. Emmanuel A Akabe for their final victory at the Supreme court sitting at the FCT Abuja today being 19th January, 2024.
Ladies and Gentlemen, once more, you would recall the news casted that a vigilante group is formed in our dear Nasarawa State called “Nomad Vigilante group”, aimed at protecting Fulani cattle rearers and cattle rustling in Nasarawa State; which has so far recruited 2,180 persons and planning to recruit up to 4,000 youths of Fulani extraction. This is a systematic plans of Miyeti Allah Kautal Hore to overrun our dear state with Fulani militia's group disguising as nomadic vigilante. Our coalition, in one of its findings discovered that there are plans by the Miyetti Allah to bring the likes of Turji and many other Fulani militia leaders to be de-radicalized to work in the vigilante group. Meaning Nasarawa State will be flooded with “claimed” repentant militia groups as vigilante members. The questions that rolled down our minds among others are;
1. How many nomads do we have in Nasarawa State that would warrant employing 4000 youths as nomad vigilante?
2. What are the challenges facing Fulanis as an Ethnic group in the state that deserve only a nomad group ( Vigilante) to mitigate them?.
Therefore, this is a nomenclature we have never heard of even in Sokoto and Katsina states which is believed to be some of the states with more cattle breeders.
It is also believed and likely true that Nasarawa State is harboring Fulani Militias in its borders with Plateau, Benue, Kaduna and the FCT where there are serious security challenges. As peaceful loving people of Nasarawa state we are not willing to trade our peaceful coexistence with the Fulanis, but frown at plans to overturn our communities with militias as vigilante.
We are calling on our dear Governor, HE Engr. A.A Sule to as a matter of urgency to have a rethink or disband the said Nomad Vigilante group. So as to avoid trading the peace in the State with a group on mission. We also call on the security agencies including the police to see the danger in allowing this group exist. If the state wants to allow a vigilante for nomads why then should it be of only Fulani extraction? Thus, let it be a harmonized tirbal group not just a tribe. Does it mean that only Fulanis that own cattle In the Nasarawa state? Even if the answer is yes, a harmonization is a necessity to this effect. .
We are calling on our traditional rulers too to raise their voices on this new development.
We are also calling on every sons and daughters, major and critical stakeholders of the state to help us see this as a grand plan to flood our state with militia group as members of vigilante, which possesses great security threat to our people and our communities in the nearest future.
In conclusion, we pray that HE Engr. A A Sule and HE Dr. Emmanuel A Akabe as the peace loving leaders to look into our plight and have a rethink on the above plans as it may generate into the following;
It may result to militia group.
It has created a security threat to the indigenous Ethnic groups.
Its mission is not clearly known and not also heard any where even in their own states.

Comr. Silas Dauda Yileni
