Dear Mr Burnham @andyburnham , you say that asylum seekers should not just be housed in poor areas, but in rich areas. No, they shouldn’t be housed in any areas of Britain. There is no war in France and hasn’t been for quite some time. Nor Germany, nor Italy, nor Greece, nor Spain. All countries that they’ve travelled through to get to ours. They’ve travelled to ours not out of desperation, but in search of a better life. A life where you will give them a house, a phone, spending money for life and no requirement to ever integrate or to work. Paid for not by you, but by hardworking British taxpayers. People who work day and night and stress and can’t sleep because they don’t know how to pay the next electricity bill. People who are decent people and trying to make a decent life for themselves and their families. This is Britain and it is a pleasant land because of the people here. The lands that the asylum seekers have come from are not pleasant lands. Not because of some geographical anomaly, but because of the people. The people that you now want to occupy every corner of this pleasant land. No, they shouldn’t be housed in rich areas or poor areas. They should be sent home. Because they will never call Britain home, but I do and so do many other people who love Britain and want it to remain as Britain. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Ann is laid to rest today at Buckfast Abbey, in the church where she worshipped every Sunday.

A private Requiem Mass, exactly as she’d have wanted it. No spectacle, no fuss, just her faith and the people who loved her.

May she rest in peace and rise in glory. Thank you, Ann.

NEW🚨: Anne Widdecombe's will be laid to rest at private service where she used to worship

The funeral of Ann Widdecombe is set to take place this week at Buckfast Abbey, which was her regular place of worship.

In a public statement on the Abbey's website, Fr Abbot and the Monastic Community of Buckfast stated: "Ann’s family are deeply grateful for the many messages of sympathy and support they have received.

"The family wish to hold a private Requiem Mass, attended by Ann’s closest family and friends, so that they may gather in remembrance and grief with dignity and peace.

"The family respectfully request that members of the press do not attend, to preserve their privacy, and to avoid disruption to those attending.

"Buckfast Abbey asks the press for understanding and restraint at this time, to respect the family’s wishes. There will be no access to the Abbey Church on the day of the Requiem Mass.

"The Order of Service will be published online at 9am on the day of the Requiem Mass, and will contain the texts of the Scripture Readings, Prayers, Hymns and musical items to be sung by the Abbey Choir."

The abbey confirmed the order of service will be available to download.

The Requiem Mass will be offered on August 12 by The Right Revered David Charlesworth, Abbot of Buckfast. His Homily to be preached at the Requiem Mass will be made available at 2pm on the day, via the same link.

The abbey has said a "small number of official photographs" of the service will be released after the funeral. It added that there will be no Book of Condolence and the public are kindly asked not to bring floral tributes.

Ann was a frequent worshipper in the Abbey Church, attending the Sunday Solemn Mass as well as the church's Holy Week and Easter services.

In a tribute to her following her death on July 8 at her home on Dartmoor, Fr Abbot and the Monastic Community of Buckfast said: "Many in our worshipping community knew her as a kind and warm character. She will be missed and fondly remembered."

Burnham is completely missing the point. Housing migrants is not some collective national endeavour like fighting a war or overcoming a natural disaster where we must all pull together. It’s a failure of those in charge to do what is necessary to solve the problem. The government could fix this tomorrow by deporting those who are here illegally, removing the burden from the British public, both rich and poor. Yes, this may require changing the law and withdrawing from treaties but unlike the uncertainty of war or natural disaster, the solution is in the gift of the government.
