I finally understood what many parents say they feel when they watch their kids go off to college as I watched my little sister go through the departure area on her very first trip overseas. #kids#adulting
He finally stopped when his legs gave way and his lungs burned. His shirt clung to his body and his body odor made him gag. But, he escaped. That was all that mattered.
As if in slow motion, the short red-dyed head lifted.
A horn blared as he dashed across the street.
"Van?" Even across the street, he heard her voice.
He pumped his arms, urging his heavy legs to keep going. He really should make use of his gym membership, he thought, wheezing.
His eyes widened. His body froze. Sweat beaded on his forehead as his head swung wildly.
The walk sign flashed green.
"No," he said, more a whimper than a word.
The object of his terror stepped on the pedestrian island, head bowed over a red-encased mobile phone.
Another manuscript rejection. Sad but it doesn't sting quite as bad as the first one. I suppose I'm developing a thicker skin now.
