Word is getting out about leaving guns in cars! Over June/July we’ve seen a 55% decrease from last year. Last year 47 guns were stolen from cars during that time period, and this year 26 have been stolen. That’s still 26 too many! #dontleavegunsincars

First time for everything, 9 cars reported stolen over the weekend that were running unattended warming up. Don’t think I’ve ever seen that many. The cold weather is here, never a good idea to not sit in your car while it’s warming up.

I hate to sound like a broken record but overnight Wichita had 3 cars stolen that were left running. This doesn’t help a rising crime trend in auto thefts. Please don’t leave your cars running unattended.

We want to emphasize the important of not leaving your vehicle unattended and running in front of your house. We understand with the cold temps people want to have warm cars but this leads to very easy auto thefts.

In the last 24 hours 4 cars were stolen in Wichita that were left running and an additional 3 cars were stolen that had keys left in them. Please take your keys with you when you get out of your car.

WPD says Residential burglaries are down in Wichita by 16%.

They say its because more people are home due to covid and more houses have security like ring installed.
