Russia isn’t much of a rival except for nukes and vodka. Canada needs a few slaps to knock some sense into their incompetent leaders (Katy Perry, really 🤣). Besides the AI race is about to separate these countries further from the US from a GDP perspective in the next few years. The “bullying” is more about weakness in leadership with our allies, they need to be slapped around like dependent teenagers wanting to live with mommy instead of going out and making it in their own.

Disagree, the pressure or restrictions are not about preventing them from rising nor are they equivalent concerns. Russia hasn’t had a rising economy even prior to the war. They don’t really produce anything other than oil and cyber threats, thier GDP is no larger than Texas. Russia is a rouge state trying to gain power by taking land through war. Clearly a menace to the world that should be stopped.

China is a completely different animal who’s grown partially legitimately, partially through state controlled funding and largely through corrupt intellectual property and general theft practices. If you’ve ever done serious business in any technology area with China you’d know this has been the concern for decades. These corrupt practices are state sponsored as well. You don’t do business on a level playing field ( as you suggest) when the setup is clearly not level.
