We celebrate South Carolina native Major James Capers Jr. for receiving our nation’s highest military honor, the Medal of Honor.

During a mission in Vietnam in 1967, Major Capers displayed extraordinary courage, continuing to lead his team despite suffering severe injuries and helping ensure every member of his unit made it home alive.\

Nearly 60 years later, this long-overdue recognition has finally been awarded by President Trump.

South Carolina is proud to call this American hero one of our own.

Thank you, Major Capers, for your service, sacrifice, and unwavering devotion to our nation.
