One challenge of a restoration project like Spellbreak is how to "gameify" it, making it feel less like a novelty and more of a real live-service game. I've thought of a "grind if you want" where the only thing that shows experience is your class mastery and mage rank.

We’ve made full-scale matchmaking and a friend system possible by reverse engineering the “language” the client speaks, and rebuilding the servers to speak that language. Before, the client would speak with no response, and now it has something that listens and speaks back.
