Dancing reduced the risk of dementia by 76 percent in a 21-year study of older adults, the largest drop of any activity tested. Nothing else came close.

The study was published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2003 by Joe Verghese and a team at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. They followed 469 adults over 75 for 21 years and tracked which activities protected the brain. Swimming and cycling helped a little, but of all the physical activities tested, dancing was the only one linked to a large drop in risk.

The researchers believe dancing works because it is the only common physical activity that requires rapid decision-making while the body is moving. You follow a rhythm, respond to a partner, move through a room, and remember steps, all while your body is in motion. The brain is doing two things at once: physical coordination and real-time problem solving. That combination builds and maintains neural connections in a way that repetitive exercise does not.

Among cognitive activities, doing crossword puzzles at least four days a week reduced the risk by 47 percent. Reading reduced it by 35 percent. But neither matched dancing's 76, and dancing was the only activity that combined the physical and the cognitive in a single dose.

Just had the creepiest scam ever happen 20 minutes ago.

I got a call from my wife telling me she forgot her wallet and needed the credit card to pay for her gas.

Except my wife was at home with me, and drives a Tesla. Same voice, bit... off, weird cadence but 100% sounded just like her. If she wasn't there, and it wasn't about gas I would have fallen for it.

I entertained it for awhile to get more out of it, I was so confused. Must be some sort of voice deepfake. The responses were too fast for ai, I think it was a voice filter. I wish I had thought to record it.

The future is about to get fucked. Warn your loved ones, do verbal passwords with your kids.

Starbucks employees expose that Starbucks is using “blending powder” in many of their newer drinks

This new powder was just introduced this month. If you drink Starbucks you should be concerned about this

This “blending powder” consists of Gum arabic, maltodextrin, xanthan gum, natural flavor, silica and stevia extract (rebaudioside-A)

The reason they use it is because it acts as an emulsifier and stabilizer

The gums and other components create a smoother, more consistent frozen blended texture and slows separation that would otherwise happen soon after the drink leaves the blender

Starbucks employees have been making videos saying it makes their throats hurt, makes them cough and makes their head hurt

The silica is silicon dioxide and acts as an anti-caking agent. This is a very controversial ingredient for health concerns

But it’s also a concern for these Starbucks employees because inhaling it is dangerous

Fine silica dust can become airborne when the powder is scooped. Prolonged or repeated inhalation of certain forms of silica is linked to serious lung conditions like silicosis

This should not be put in drinks we consume

Widely regarded as one of the most significant works in Norwegian literary history, the copy purchased by the Haalands was the only complete edition still in private ownership. It sold for 1.3 million Norwegian kroner (about $134,000), setting the record as the most expensive Norwegian book ever sold at auction.

Instead of keeping the rare volume in a private collection, the Haalands donated it to the library in Time Municipality, where Erling grew up.
