First of all, he misread the cut tension and cut from the compressed side first. Then he doubles down on the mistake when his bar got predictably 'clamped'.

Argument could be made that his chosen cut was too high to be made safe in any case. Why not choose a cut location closer to the ground?

Anyway... Always lean towards a '2/3 undercut' when you have a hung-up tree.

Also, a backup bar/chain would have saved him the hissy fit consequences of about $120 to replace a STIHL bar and chain. Just (calmly) take the stuck bar off the head, attach your spare bar/chain to the head and make the correct undercut close to the original. The stuck bar and chain will drop free... no damage. No loss.

Full disclosure: I enjoy the benefit of having this same experience... But, WITHOUT the hissy fit and WITH a second saw. "Always be prepared". You WILL get stuck at some point. One saw just doesn't cut it when you are cutting long wood.
