@AmyTheBrawler As someone who played a bit of the 64 and 3ds versions. On my first run of NS2 I did a full hard route but lost a wing and Peppy on Area 6 so I was really struggling on Venom 2.
I gave up, did an easier route to Venom 1, then retried hard route and had less struggle on Venom 2

@HammerBubblegum Skill trees in pvp can be a thing if it starts from scratch at every games.

The problem is making it permanent upgrades, locking features behind it and requirering a resource that is very hard to get for free but very easy if you whale.
