INFLUENZA REACHES EPIDEMIC THRESHOLD in New York—Influenza A (Unknown variety) positivity soars (yellow), while hospitalizations stand higher than past 3 years. The rise of unknown subtyping Flu A has led NY to issue new alert to subtype all Flu A immediately for bird flu.
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Lt. Col. Harry S. Stewart Jr., one of the last surviving Tuskegee Airmen, at the age of 100. A true pioneer in aviation, Stewart distinguished himself during World War II, earning the Distinguished Flying Cross for downing three German aircraft in a single mission. He also became a Top Gun winner in 1949, though his groundbreaking accomplishments were only recently recognized.
Despite the barriers of racism that kept him from pursuing his dream of flying commercially, Stewart forged a successful career as a mechanical engineer and vice president of a natural gas pipeline company. His incredible courage, resilience, and character left a lasting impact on history. Stewart’s legacy will continue to inspire future generations to rise above challenges and break barriers.

I have attended many CPR classes over the years, but was never told this…..
When you are alone and have a heart attack. What are you gonna do then ?
A rarely good post that can't be shared often enough:
1.
Take a 2 minute break and read this:
Let's say it's 5:25 pm and you're driving home after an unusually hard day's work.
2.
You are really tired and frustrated.
All of a sudden your chest pains. They are starting to radiate in the arm and jaw. It feels like being stabbed in the chest and heart. You're only a few miles away from the nearest hospital or home.
3.
Unfortunately you don't know if you can make it..
4.
Maybe you've taken CPR training, but the person running the course hasn't told you how to help yourself.
5.
How do you survive a heart attack when you're alone when it happens? A person who is feeling weak and whose heart is beating hard has only about 10 seconds before losing consciousness.
6.
But you can help yourself by coughing repeatedly and very strongly! Deep breaths before every cough. Coughing should be repeated every second until you arrive at the hospital or until your heart starts to beat normally.
7.
Deep breathing gives oxygen to your lungs and coughing movements boost the heart and blood circulation. Heart pressure also helps to restore a normal heartbeat. Here's how cardiac arrest victims can make it to the hospital for the right treatment
8.
Cardiologists say if someone gets this message and passes it on to 10 people, we can expect to save at least one life.
9.
FOR WOMEN: You should know that women have additional and different symptoms. Rarely have crushing chest pain or pain in the arms. Often have indigestion and tightness across the back at the bra line plus sudden fatigue.
Instead of posting jokes, you're helping save lives by spreading this message.

Farewell to a Legend: Last Surviving Buffalo Soldier, Robert W. Dixon, Dies at 103
Today, we honor the extraordinary life of Robert Walter Dixon, the last surviving Buffalo Soldier, who passed away on November 15, 2024, at the age of 103.
Born in 1921 in Manhattan, Dixon enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1941 at the start of World War II. He proudly served as a corporal in the Buffalo Soldiers regiment, where he and his fellow troops trained cadets at West Point in horseback riding and mounted tactics. These soldiers not only served their country but also broke barriers in the face of segregation and inequality.
After the war, Dixon continued to exemplify leadership and service. He worked at IBM in Poughkeepsie, rising to become a manager before retiring in 1977. In his later years, he dedicated himself to his community in Albany, serving as a pastor and a civic leader. He chaired the city's Community Police Review Board and led efforts to memorialize the legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
In 2021, Dixon returned to West Point for the dedication of a monument honoring the Buffalo Soldiers, a powerful reminder of the regiment's contributions and his role in shaping history.
Robert W. Dixon’s life was one of resilience, courage, and service. His passing marks the end of an era, closing the chapter on the living legacy of the Buffalo Soldiers. He leaves behind his wife, Georgia, and an enduring impact on the country he served.
Rest in power, Corporal Robert W. Dixon. Your legacy will never be forgotten.
