@ds_whitaker Ugh, no dust jacket, no deal! Blurb has a special deal with Reedsy, which is the cloud service I use to do most of my writing, and I they seem to have a pretty good distribution setup including integration with Amazon and Ingram. I'll probably order a couple proofs from both.
@ds_whitaker Yeah, I decided the stress and anxiety of submitting to publishers isn't really my thing. I'm either going to do Ingram or Blurb. If I can keep up this late spurt of momentum, it'll be in January. That's cool about the coloring book!
@ds_whitaker Hi! How's your world?
I stepped away for a bit to follow a long, winding trail of other interests. The road seems to be twisting back this way, so I hope to actually release a book sometime soon.
I, uh, spent 6 hours yesterday making a dust jacket? So that's something.

Ever look at a finished manuscript one month before a self-imposed publication deadline and think, "But what if I overhaul an entire faction of world-building and character affiliation to make them less militaristic and more cyberpunk corpo-security?"
I've always had a firm detente with #ADHD, but recently I began understanding the ways it affects my life. Tremendous guilt (and depression) lies beneath the inability to force myself to FINISH a project. Letting go of that is what allows me to circle back to it.
Eventually.
I emerge from cryosleep into a universe that has passed me by. Guess I should get to work figuring out my place in it.
How's your world, #WritingCommunity?
This is one area pantsers may have an advantage, in my experience. Because (for the most part) the dialogue creates and advances the plot. It defines the characters, and the more realistic it is, the easier everything seems to slot into place... After many, many revisions.
One of the hardest things is to write dialogue that simultaneously develops/reflects character, advances plot, and sounds real WITHOUT making it obvious that that's what you're trying to do.
"That isn't yours," somebody said. An older fella sporting half a year's worth of scraggly beard.
“Oh?” I stuffed the cash into a pocket without looking at it. "Sure seems like mine." Not that it would be for long. I was headed to tell Johnny Racks I didn't...

Got an interesting first line prompt for a 500 word story from a fellow member of the Writer Next Door discord. Apparently it was used in a contest somewhere recently at a writer's conference. I figured why not? Sounds fun. So here goes:

Which is how I found myself sitting at home in the kitchen after prostrating myself before my gangster loan shark, spreading a lifetime’s worth of earnings on the glossy maple wood table my father built with his own hands. *Two* lifetimes.
