Me: "Even if it was unpopular, are you saying the Democratic Party should not speak out against the president sending migrants who have committed no crimes to be tortured in a foreign gulag?"
@mattyglesias: "Yeah."
Me: "Just stay silent?"
Yglesias: "I think that sometimes, if you want to help people... you gotta win first."
Me: "They might be dead in three years time, by the time you win."
Despite all the arguments on this hellsite over the exact number of his Piker tweets, this was the part of my interview with Matthew Yglesias that really stood out to me. I was actually stunned by this response. Shouldn't politics also stand for something more than triangulation, polling and 4-D chess strategizing?

To those who seek to create positive change in Cuba - now is the time.
The disappointment of failed promises, corruption, and the privileged lives of only a few; seize this opportunity to create the change you desire through a discrete partnership with the CIA.
Malfoid is quietly becoming a symbol of the West's cultural counter-revolution.
In a world increasingly starved of romance, devotion and anything worth building a future around, a fictional girl seems to have awakened something long dormant.
The main difference between D&D and other dice games is the flexibility in the story. If you want everything to be pure luck there are other games you can play. Or just find a DM that relies solely on dice rolls for all decisions (even if that seems far less fun to me)
A really good DM is basically an author writing in real time. There are moments where the pure chance of a dice roll is crucial, but there are also moments where you can let the DM adapt a story to other actions and ideas. I don’t see a problem with this.
Just heard about Critical Role not using dice to determine important gameplay moments and I don't know if I should be either embarrassed or annoyingly bored at this point. Just stage a play already, this isn't even a game anymore.
ProPublica: Trump Appointees Wanted a Voting Machine Hacked
A few months into President Donald Trump’s second term, political appointees at the Department of Homeland Security made an unusual request of its agency focused on cybersecurity: Secretly acquire a voting machine and hack it.
The appointees wanted the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency to procure the machine, examine it and report back the findings so they could be given to the White House, according to two former administration officials with knowledge of the request.

Using private company stock to fund social programs is such a shameless way to make it politically unpopular to do anything that harms Anthropic or SpaceX. Individual private companies should never be permanently cemented into the economy and wellbeing of average people.
Elon Musk just confirmed that its the beginning of Universal High income. Enjoy your last months before the abundance begins and we enter the golden era.
It’s interesting to see certain extremely mainstream establishment politicians (Obama, Harris, Newsom, etc) slowly come around on progressive issues but half a decade late and only when it becomes politically detrimental to not change. Spineless cowards.
