Why turbulence injuries keep happening
Sudden vertical jolts can cause head, neck, and back injuries to unbelted occupants, leading to hospital evaluations. Clear-air turbulence is invisible to radar, and the Rockies' mountain-wave environments create operational challenges. The FAA typically reviews such events to see if forecasting or procedures can be improved. π

The final approach under scrutiny
The crew declared an emergency 16 nautical miles from the airport. After a go-around on the first approach, they attempted a second approach from the opposite direction. The aircraft touched down at high speed, causing the gear to collapse and the jet to veer off the runway into a fire. Investigators are now focusing on approach speed, potential systems failures, and the recovery of flight recorders. π

Why this report matters
The Boeing 787-8 crashed 32 seconds after takeoff, killing 241 people aboard and at least 19 on the ground. A preliminary report stated both engines lost thrust after fuel control switches moved from RUN to CUTOFF, with no mechanical fault found in the engines or fuel systems. π
