ATC suggestion to Duffy:
Start modernizing the sector above 18,000 feet (FL180) first with AI technology. It will slowly reduce the need for human “Controllers”. While you are at it rename ATC as Air Traffic Coordinators, they do not “control” human occupied aircraft yet.
With the use of ADS-B/C and that is required already and satellite base communications it is eventually possible to have very few ATC personnel monitor, separate and coordinate traffic above FL180.
TFRs are similar to speed traps on roads in small cities, they generate a lot of income and cost a lot to patrol, but have not yet caught a bad guy with bad intentions. They do, however, catch a lot of pilots with poor navigation skills and those without current chart updates and NOTAMs. They are a remnant of 9/11 that was put in place to avoid or mitigate another 9/11, but there is serious doubt that they have stopped another 9/11 from happening. One wonders how much these TFRs are costing us tax payers per year or per TFR and what if any security they actually give? I suspect they cost us 10s of millions a year that could be used to train pilots better?
Then only criminals and police Will have firearms and the police will not get there until you are dead. Besides, Trump appears to follow law and our US Constitution and an EO on banning firearms would be unconstitutional. There is a process for changing our US Constitution, but it does not appear that a super majority would agree with you.
We can indeed vote them out, but if they do not have a hard reason to leave they have more incentive to develop a war chest of funding to suppress a challenger. That war chest is filled by those getting what they want through legislation. Same logic for the POTUS and term limits have worked well for that position. As I have posted before the salaries of our representatives like our attorneys should be paid by us through local and state taxes and not by the Federal Government and whatever we decide to pay them that is all that they and their staff get. This will take an Article V Convention of States to cure it appears. A limited Federal Government is a good thing.
Please get rid of these annoying 30 nm radius TFRs that will not stop a bad guy and only trap stupid pilots not using apps like Foreflight to help them avoid these traps. They are remnants of the security reaction to 9/11 that would have never stopped 9/11. At least shrink these TFRs to say 5 nm and arm the Secret Service accordingly to stop the threat if it is coming to the center. These TFRs are good for adding flying time to intercept pilot’s log books, but are simply not effective against a real threat and waste a lot of tax dollars.
@VividProwess I wonder what the Circular Error Probability (CEP) of Iranian Ballistic Missiles is? It appears to be about what it was for our ATLAS-D missiles in the 1960s? Their CEP appears to be much greater than tge current blast zone of their current warheads, maybe 1 km?
It is in our National interest to remove the threat of Iran on the USA and the most significant threat is them being able to Nuke the USA. If Israel cannot remove the threat then we have to do that, but only when Iran is capable of executing that threat. It does not currently appear that Iran is capable of Nuking the USA. They may be currently capable of Nuking Israel ?
@abaird2020@LeadingReport That is what happened in Denver and look what happened in Denver. Colorado got Calafornicated. However, I did like living in Denver for several years until age discrimination in hiring caught up to me again.
@Trisha1146134@anhanry@LeadingReport Agreed, and Tennessee was on my list. I landed there once in a friendly farmer’s field in my glider. Tornadoes are not what I want near my aircraft, so Tennessee became number 2 on my list.
@xtremetraveler@LeadingReport You are a good detective. Agreed that property taxes are too high here and NH should have lower rate formula similar to California’s Prop 13.
I did not bring California politics with me. I was always in the conservative voter minority. However, I did very much like Prop 13 that clamped my property taxes to my purchase price and only allowed it to increase that base to no greater than 2% a year and then tax me on 1% of that. Prop 13,was a step in the right’s direction vice the left’s direction.
@RedLineNewsUSA Looks like they lost power in both engines for some reason. Could have been a flock of birds ingested into the engines or contaminated fuel?
Actually one has to wonder why each citizen has to pay taxes to the Federal Government and then they have enough to give some of it back to the States with strings. It actually should be the 50 States paying the Federal Government for what they want the Feds to do for them and then tax their people enough to pay for that and internal state needs that the people of the states want done internally. The Feds should not be given more in taxes than the States want done for them. The House and Senate members for each State should also only be paid by their State vice becone Federal emoloyees.
