Excited to welcome our newest addition thanks to a surprise from a friend at @BiotaAq! A beautiful Potter’s Angelfish (Centropyge potteri) is taking to a decked out HelloReef from @BulkReefSupply and eating well.
Watching this vibrant little fish begin to explore its new home already brings alot of smiles... you can see how tiny it is compared to my AvidAqua frag rack.
Twitch will stay put for a bit while it grows, then move to the 300 gal. The pods have fully multiplied and I’ve let the tank green up before introducing which makes transitions easier I think.
@CORALmagazine March 2009 by Matt Pedersen unlocked this stunning species for me and is well worth a read if you plan to keep these. They are an absolute delight with turquoise bodies and orange dreamsicle spots.
Is it expert only? Sort of... it's high maintenance and not an auto feeder fish. Mastic is the key food to use, that cannot be stressed enough.
If you plan to take a few days off you'll want a tank sitter or a bunch of hard corals in your system as they don't have alot of body reserves. The last pair I had relentlessly pestered an encrusting Monti. They didn't damage it but the polyps stayed retracted during the day and if the coral isn't healthy or large enough it could suffer.
Here I use a dead skeleton (critical) to apply the mastic to and held in place using my AvidAqua frag rack. This works well because the magnets do not rotate like round ones. I also don't use the silicone pad because I want to easily slide the rack to the surface.
Clean and attractive external panel mount of the AvidAqua InSight Pro while the family was sleeping.
It's pretty straight forward and fast...
I draw a square...
I cut a hole...
I snap the the tension stap to match the panel thickness...
Voilà
Other mounting options include built in table mount and ModMag mount for when you don't want a hole.
I do enjoy watching the reef wake up, whether it is in the water or in my home. Time to cheers with a cup of coco in the Skimmate Stein for an exceptionally challenging yet rewarding year.
Tis the season, Merry Christmas

Well my family is taking a break from Black Friday this morning to assess our lighting options. The included AI Blade is easy to use and plenty powerful but I also want a lid... 😂
This would be a true blanket light approach! Suggestions on optimum mounting height???
All kidding aside we'll likely use the blade but is tempting to get a single point light for the looks. The blade sits low and does not require a shade which is certainly a positive.
