Bishop David Oyedepo will always be primarily seen as the enigmatic, generational and transformational church leader he is. He will probably be the first to agree to that being his defining identity. God’s worker.

To only see him that way will amount to wilful blindness or sincere ignorance. None is acceptable.

He is much more. No private individual, dead or alive, can lay claim to his legacy in education from primary to secondary education and two world class universities in Covenant University - arguably Nigeria’s best university- and Landmark University.

Beyond these, the man is a maker of men. Not just in terms of building them up as a church leader. A maker of men in terms of literal economic empowerment. There are thousands of enterprises that cannot tell their stories without referencing his direct contribution.

Let’s not speak about the exceptional exploits of his university products. You just know there is a design at play.

He is a nation-builder. A man whose footprint finds its presence all around the world. You couldn’t write a single book on his impact, let alone one social media post.

This is only to say that when you think of the man, understand that whatever you see or know is only a vignette of his fullness.

Love or hate him, admire or detest him, this is an extraordinary symbol of pride to the Black race. If we were as committed to telling stories of greatness about our people, as Americans are used to doing, we’d understand better.

2.The Ark, Canaan Land, Ota, Nigeria

Footprint-66, 753m2

With a footprint of 66,753 square meters on completion, the Ark will be the second largest Church structure/building. Now, let's draw a few lines.

The Ark would be the LARGEST covered stadium structure in the world upon completion. It is also going to become the LARGEST indoor arena the world has ever seen till date.

The Ark has a Diagrid Area of 141,266 sqm, a Span of 318m which is the longest in the world, a foundation depth of 21 metres which is half the foundation depth (42 metres) of Burj Khalifa in Dubai UAE. (Burj Khalifa is the tallest building on earth). The Ark will have a height of 72 metres.

The Construction is estimated to last 4 years, I.e 2021- 2025.

The Ark is an ultra modern facility and will soon break another record as the building fitted with the highest number of lifts/elevators/escalators in the world. The record of 97 is presently held by Shanghai Towers, China but with a total of 129 elevators, escalators and travelators, the Ark will become number 1.

The Ark has 4 Levels and 20 Staircases and 86
Vomitories ensuring that entry and exit can be achieved very quickly. There will be a Presidential Drive accessing the building up to the main bowl near the disappearing altar (similar to that used by Kenneth Hagin of blessed memory) .

The Ark has twin 12 floor towers (24 floors altogether) which had been raised to the 12th floor level by December 2023. Work is presently ongoing on the twin helicopter landing pads emplaced on the towers.

For air conditioning, a set of 20 x 600 Ton Chillers, cumulatively 12,000 tons is the highest total for one building in Africa. The highest total of 6x 3,400 (20,400) chillers was built by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for her regular visitors to the massive 70,000m2 area our cousins usually visit.

The Ark is eco-friendly and the Dome of the Ark will generate 1 Megawatt of solar power for the structure. Rain water will also be stored at the upper levels of the Ark during rainy season to ensure a gravity flush system to ease sanitary challenges in the facility. On a personal note, during my visit to the Burj Khalifa at the opening in January 2010, one of their challenges was having to send water 500-600m upwards to flush toilets. The Dome of the Ark will reverse this order thus ensuring less use of power.
The Ark will have 1,200 toilets which will be the highest number of toilets by a building in Africa (Wembley Stadium has 2,618-highest in the world). Travel time to Toilet and back to seat is 7 minutes.

In essence if all the spaces for meetings are filled up within the facility, it will take 200,000 people.

According to Biodun Fatoyinbo of COZA, over N100 Billion was paid in 2022 to ensure the quick delivery of the project.
With the state of the nation, the $200m cost estimate is likely too small. However, the constructors, LaraLek Ultimate Construction, will definitely make things reasonable especially with the dedication of the founder of the construction giant, Lekan Adebiyi.
Gbenga Alalade is the Project Director and Lead Architect of the Ark.

For factory beggars, the Ark will not only be a factory for spiritual and human capital development but a place of SURGICAL OPERATIONS towards providing solutions to all Human Needs.

Bishop Oyedepo says:

'This building will remain till Jesus comes.
If he comes after one year He will meet it here.
If he comes after 1000 years, he will meet it here..
We are entering the Ark with 2 services and Faith Tabernacle will be for overflow'.

The Ark will have a 15,000 car parking space.
