Bravo ! Quick action and coordination between the Assam Forest Department and Railways helped save precious elephant lives from a potential collision with a Rajdhani Express on the railway tracks in Nagaon today. Forest staff alerted the Railways, and the loco-pilot, working with the Railway Control Room, halted the Rajdhani Express, allowing the large herd to cross safely.

All five Indian students who participated in the 56th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) 2026 in Colombia, won Gold!
Placing India joint #1 in the world alongside China, Kazakhstan, Russia, South Korea and Taiwan, among 381 students from 87 countries.

The champions:

Shresth Suraiya — Mumbai

And this comes without the kind of vast, state-organised apparatus that some countries deploy to nurture Olympiad talent.

We’re fortunate to have the dedication of the scientists, teachers and mentors at the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, who have built a world-class Olympiad programme with only modest resources.

But, at the end of the day, the driving force is the raw talent, curiosity & hunger to succeed of these remarkable young minds.

I want to say thank you to these Olympians & to everyone who has helped shape their journey for making me so optimistic about India’s future.

Couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw this news.

Of course, India is a global force in shooting, but most of our success has come in rifle & pistol events.

Trap and skeet have always been much tougher to crack, demanding a very different ecosystem of ranges, coaching and competition.

That’s what makes Neeru Dhanda’s victory so special.

To win an ISSF World Cup gold in trap is one thing. To do it at Lonato, which is one of the sport’s most iconic venues and a place every shotgun shooter reveres, is another.

Clay target shooting has long been a European stronghold and is a discipline many Americans proudly regard as their own. Which is why Neeru’s gold feels like such a breakthrough.

Congratulations, Neeru. May this be the first of many more podiums. 🇮🇳

In Kruger National Park, South Africa, veteran ranger Sipho Nkosi suffered a heart attack while on solo patrol. His vehicle was found empty, and search teams began looking for him.

What the park’s remote trail cameras revealed broke the hearts of everyone who saw the footage.

An old bull elephant — known to rangers as “Mnumzane” (Zulu for “Sir”) — had found Sipho’s body. For three full days and nights, the elephant refused to leave. He stood guard, gently touching the ranger with his trunk, chasing away hyenas and jackals that came too close, and even covering parts of the body with branches and leaves.

On the third night, the elephant was still there — visibly grieving, swaying slowly beside his fallen friend. Only when the full recovery team arrived with vehicles did Mnumzane finally step back, watching solemnly as they carried Sipho away.

Park officials later confirmed that Sipho had rescued this same elephant as a calf years earlier after poachers killed his mother. The elephant had never forgotten.

One colleague who viewed the footage whispered:

“He didn’t come to say goodbye. He came to make sure no one disrespected his brother.”

Mnumzane still visits the exact spot regularly. Rangers now leave fresh water and fruit there in honor of both.

A young man met an old man and asked him:

— Do you remember me?

The old man replied, “No, I don’t.”

Then the young man said, “I was one of your students.”

The old man asked:

— Oh really? What do you do now?

The young man answered:

— I became a teacher.

— That’s great! Just like me? — said the old man.

— Yes. I became a teacher because you inspired me to be one.

The old man was curious and asked what moment inspired him.

The young man told this story:

— One day, one of my friends brought a beautiful new watch to school. I wanted it, so I stole it from his pocket. After a while, my friend noticed his watch was missing and told you about it.

You stopped the class and said:

— Someone’s watch was stolen during the lesson. Whoever took it, please return it.

— But I didn’t return it. I was too ashamed.

Then you closed the classroom door and told all of us to stand up. You said you would check everyone’s pockets until the watch was found. But you also told us to close our eyes while you searched.

So we did.

You went through everyone’s pockets, one by one. When you reached mine, you found the watch and took it. But you didn’t stop. You kept checking the others’ pockets too.

Then you said:

— Open your eyes. I found the watch.

You never said anything to me. You didn’t punish me, and you never told anyone it was me. That day was the most embarrassing moment of my life.

But it was also the day I was saved from going down the wrong path. You didn’t lecture me, but your actions spoke louder than words.

That day, I understood what it means to be a real teacher. And that’s why I became one.

Do you remember that day, teacher?

The old man replied:

— I remember the situation and searching for the watch, but I don’t remember you — because I also had my eyes closed.

This is what true teaching is:

If correcting someone means embarrassing them, then you don’t truly know how to teach. ❣️
