Finland has a unique a-PVP problem, which was created when authorities had a heavy crackdown on amphetamine distributors in the country a couple of years ago.
Subsequently levels of amphetamine use dropped and a-PVP began a strong rise, as it started to be offered as a new substitute for amphetamine. This was seen in waste water analysis which is very reliable method to measure usage levels.
The problem is that a-PVP is significantly more harmful than amphetamine, which is available in pharmacies as ADHD medication.
So now minister Rantanen is increasing police resources to cure the problem - the same method that created the problem in the first place.
Finland continues to have one of the worst self-created drug problems in Europe, with more than 200 overdose deaths every year. And the authorities just keep making it worse, opposing any effective harm reduction policies such as substitution therapy and controlled use rooms.
They should be held responsible for the needless deaths.
