Today, the world marks International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition.

This is how i responded to questions from the international press in Moscow when asked about the kind of world Ghana and its partners are working towards following our historic UN resolution declaring the transatlantic enslavement as the gravest crime against humanity.

Many enslaved African-American went to Mexico for sanctuary and when slave owners demanded Mexico to send them back, Mexico replied with; There are no Black slaves in Mexico only Black citizens, insisting that all enslaved people were free when they set foot on Mexican soil. Slave owners would then hire bounty hunters to illegally kidnap escapees in Mexico, but Mexico fought and killed to protect them.
