People pay lip service to this because China is a crybaby that throws a shitfit when people say the truth outloud.
Your civil war ended, Taiwan is a country, they don't want to be ruled by Beijing.
on matters of taiwanese self-determination and independence it is vital that we consult *checks notes* american twitch streamers who have never stepped foot on taiwan
This is EXTREMELY bad and signifies the start of decay of human society. There’s a reason why some of society’s greatest eras had advancements within humanities and the arts. And with art inherently being political, this is the start of a greater censorship going to take place…
We’ve slowly stripped away everything that once gave a person’s life joy and beauty. Museums are closing, literacy collapsing, myths and fairy-tales largely no longer taught. National parks are being carved up by developers. More people gamble than read.
The idea that an occupation (or anything) is only worthwhile if it provides above average financial returns is exactly what us destroying this country
Childcare, eldercare, education, music, art & more are (shamefully) poorly paid but of enormous societal value
“Why does everything suck? Why is everything shitty? Why is everything gray? Why is everyone so dumb and illiterate?” Questions many people ask.
This is what happens when the humanities are consistently pushed to the back and defunded while everything/everyone prioritizes money.
Do you enjoy art? Movies? Tv shows? People go to college to learn stagecraft, audio engineering and performance skills to entertain and make art.
Do you enjoy food? People go to culinary school to provide quality food experiences and learn food safety.
There isn’t even a basket weaving degree 😭
Just a reminder that if you're wondering how we arrived at a society where seemingly no one can read, it's precisely because the powers that be have spent four decades using propaganda to sow widespread suspicion of literature, the arts and the humanities.
the only reason I got my degree is because of student loans that I was thankfully able to pay back, defunding students futures in the arts/humanities is only going to ruin society quicker!! a government shouldn’t be able to dictate what students can/cannot get help in!!
it should probably be clarified that, while this is of course designed to kill the humanities and social sciences, this is part of their effort to privatize (rather than reduce) student loan debt lol
As a society we need teachers, social workers, non-profit workers, librarians, journalists, campaign workers, administrators, researchers, etc. They can't pay back their loans? Okay then either increase their pay or lower the cost of education.
This is actually crazy. For years, we've prioritized scholarships and loans that enable students to choose low paying public service careers like teaching, social work, religious ministries, etc.
Future corporate execs and lawyers aren't the ones who need subsidized loans!
Genuinely don’t know what can be said about the federal student loan regulations. Pure boomerslop faux-frugality exploited for the sole purpose of further eviscerating academia. Just a complete and total spit in the face of the humanities
I'm at this point begging people to see this in theaters. It's a flawed but extremely colorful, fun and emotional movie with a nice message. PLEASE don't let original ideas die off like this, I don't want a world where all we have is bs live action remakes and Toy Story 26
Notice how it’s all degrees that are related to humanities and arts? Literally just pure evil to not alone people to study their passion and dreams. All majors don’t make the money they should because the economy sucks so hard so this whole thing is DUMB
Trump is banning students majoring in degrees that don’t make enough money from taking out college loans. Degrees for social work, art, religious studies, teaching aides, and music will be hit the hardest. https://t.co/6tV30STfyc
Unclear what they’re upset about. They’re protesting a film produced by Israelis, ft Israeli soldiers confessing to what they did in Gaza. Are they mad that the filmmakers solicited these confessions? Or are they mad that the soldiers are not being lauded for the war crimes?
"Netanyahu didn't want the hostages. It wasn't good for him that they come back and tell what really happened." Yocheved Lifshitz, who was a hostage in Gaza explains that Israel never cared about the hostages and was happy to see them all die.
