The bill made it illegal to play repetitive music without a licence. It was the first time in history that a bill targetted a particular kind of music.
It also created a flow of break beat in British electronic music, a creative way to try and bypass the law.
Today 30 years ago, the UK government introduced the Criminal Justice act, a bill designed to ciminalise rave paties. Under this act, rave music was defined as "music [that] includes sounds wholly or predominantly characterised by the emission of a succession of repetitive beats"
Important that trades unionists respond to current the wave of far right violence.
