Captain Smit Machchhar, the Indian Hindu pilot of flydubai flight FZ 1073, heroically saved 174 passengers and prevented a 9/11-style terror attack.
Captain Machchhar sent out two emergency distress calls as his Omani co-pilot stabbed him and tried to crash the plane.
Before collapsing from his wounds, Captain Machchhar managed to open the cockpit door from within, enabling the passengers to subdue the co-pilot/hijacker, and for two other pilots to take control.
Captain Machchhar is now recovering at a Saudi hospital, an Indian colleague tells me.
Captain Machchhar, a true hero.
1986: Neerja Bhanot, 22, stayed on a hijacked plane so hundreds could get off. She did not.
2026: Capt. Smit Machchhar, stabbed in the cockpit, still fought to keep a jet from going down
Same instinct,Different decades 🇮🇳
The Israel Airline Pilots Association expresses its gratitude to flydubai’s heroic captain, Smit Machchhar, and the relief flight crew who were on board the aircraft.
1986: Indian flight attendant Neerja Bhanot saved 360 passengers from a plane hijacked by Palestinian terrorists, sacrificing her own life.
2026: Indian origin pilot Smit Machhar saved 180 passengers from an Omani attacker, risking his own life.
When humanity is in danger, Indians step up. 🇮🇳
All these psyops only to realise India has been unified for longer than you know. Even when the Brits came they were searching for INDIA and not the hundred different kingdoms on this land.
@RichardMCNgo Unity carried real economic and administrative costs, and we accepted those trade-offs because the alternative—fragmentation—carried greater risks of conflict, external interference, and reduced collective capacity. That choice remains ours to defend.
The worst thing the British Empire did to its colonies was probably unifying India.
They governed it fine but their centralization of bureaucratic power entrenched enormous poverty ever since (c.f. the Permit Raj).
India would have done much better as 5-10 separate countries.
@RichardMCNgo it sounds like you simply cannot digest the fact that India is progressing despite all the chaos, contradictions, and problems we have faced.
