I literally dreamt about this last night. BTS singing a World Cup song co-written an co produced with Coldplay. So now I am going to hold my breath until that happens.
Woke up angry, but letβs look at the facts. BTS literally forced the Grammys to create a new category. racist as shit, xenophobic and a scam yet still the peak of music recognition. No matter the backstory, BTS did that. While ARMY calls out the racism they dealt with, the rest of the K-pop industry should be on their knees thanking them for paving the way. This also happened the year BTS came back with the strongest album of 2026 & industry plants arenβt holding up against it. So yes, this was the final nail to the coffin of BTS PAVED THE WAY argument.
When Namjoon said about the change of rules by the music industry back in 2021:
π¨"I donβt know if thatβs right β¦ It just feels like weβre easy targets because weβre a boy band, a K-pop act, and we have this high fan loyalty.β
The music industry has been always feel intimidated by BTS impact, for that reason they always try to diminish them
I feel we should channel this crazy angry energy and chart βAliensβ and βthey donβt bout usβ
coz boy all of a sudden it feels like circa 2016-2017 again.
Forbes wrote an article on the Best Asian Pop Music Performance category , a change for artists overlooked by Western awards worth a read!!!!!
Asia is the worldβs largest continent, home to 4.7 billion people, 48 countries, and thousands of distinct languages and musical traditions, and the Grammy Awards has now addressed all of it with a single category. Only K-pop, J-pop, and C-pop were named explicitly in the Academyβs statement to anchor and situate the new category while the vast ecosystems of South Asian music, Southeast Asian music, Central Asian music, and West Asian music are either subsumed within that framework or left outside it entirely. A Hindi film soundtrack, a Tamil folk-pop hybrid, an Indonesian dangdut recording, a Persian classical crossover, a Punjabi hip-hop track β all of these originate in Asia, all involve Asian languages but none of them fit comfortably into the core of the categoryβs current definition. πππ
To be fair, the new category does not restrict where else a qualifying song can be submitted; a Korean-language track could simultaneously be entered for Best Asian Pop Music Performance and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance in the same cycle, as Grammy submissions are not confined to a single category. In that sense the award is additive rather than restrictive, creating a new pathway without closing existing ones.ππ
Artists with the most No. 1 hits on the #Hot100 this decade:
