“Ironically leaders with the strongest track records are often more susceptible to fear during tumultuous periods because they have less experience facing adversity than their colleagues with more checkered pasts do.” #selfawareness#executivecoaching#lookinthemirror
"Real pressure was when I lived in a favela and left for school at nine in the morning not sure whether I would be able to eat again until nine in the night. That's some pressure. Otherwise, we can all adapt,"
Does Antony feel pressure being at Man U now? #realworld#perspective
@EnglandHockey@LauraUnsworth4 Congratulations all - and especially to Unsy - a living legend of the women’s game. Best of luck in the 1/4ers. Cheers, Tom
A friend told me about this, and I am still trying to get my head around it: a combination of genuine humility and what seems like staggering ignorance about how a player's personal life can impact performance? Do coaching courses ignore this topic, or what?
Behind the Bubble | After Australia's #T20WorldCup triumph, here's a fascinating insight into the importance of the mental side of the modern game with Dettol Support Staff psychologist Peter Clarke.
Olympic pressure is ruthless. Simone Biles looked uneasy just prior to her unsuccessful vault, and subsequent pulling out of the Olympic team event. The evasive eyes and unsettled body language are clear signs of discomfort. Probably working hard to find stability and focus.
Simone Biles has just given an astonishingly brave interview to a packed mixed zone, talking about mental health issues.
‘Even though it's so big, it's the Olympic games. But at the end of the day it's like we want to walk out of here, not be dragged out here on a stretcher’
My favorite #MLK quote:
“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.”
➡️ No one ever became great comfortably.
Head coaches / managers have to try and accept that they can't have the power they do re: contracts & (de) selection and still be the one that players go to to discuss the good, bad & ugly. They won't. (Not all of them anyway). We want to work collaboratively & not tred on toes!
In my experience, the chat goes like this in rugby:
“How much of the game do you think is mental?”
“Oh that’s massive. At least 50% of it’s in the mind.”
“How much money do you spend on mental or psychological preparation of players?”
“Nah, that’s all bollocks isn’t it!” 🤔
