@__M0thM4n__@SacrificialMods He’s actively directing people away from a free mod to pay for his just because he believes it’s a “copy,” even though the modder has even updated their own version since then.
That is not community-focused or just trying to help players out. That is greedy and money hungry.
@__M0thM4n__@SacrificialMods You can’t make that much money without being self-aware… I’m fairly certain he knows what he’s doing. And I would argue that making ppl pay so much for a mod you barely update, and blocking people for questioning your practices in any capacity, IS harmful to the players.
@__M0thM4n__@SacrificialMods YES, this is another thing. He accused that one person of copying his mod as an excuse to deter ppl away from it. The accused was a seasoned TS3 modder.
2 other ppl have been able to create similar scripts as tests and say the devs made script modding user-friendly.
@heartbeat134340@SacrificialMods Immediately making Paralives a new business model and setting that precedent from the beginning will create all sorts of issues in the community.
When you see modding as profit and not helping the community, the atmosphere has a coldness in it that turn people off.
@heartbeat134340@SacrificialMods You get it. Someone was just discussing how the Sims 4 inevitably created a modding atmosphere around being game “saviors” basically acting as devs, so people feel more entitled to payment as they’re the reason the game is playable or enjoyable.
Paralives just started.
@heartbeat134340@SacrificialMods Exactly. Donations are perfectly fine, but what the Paralives community doesn’t want to happen is people trying to capitalize off of mods bc that creates the most toxic communities.
The Sims mod early access model is a completely different topic that ppl keep combining.
@heartbeat134340@SacrificialMods The $25k/month is assuming all his supporters only pay for his lowest tier, not the $23/month CAW Mod tier that he barely releases updates for, according to his subscribers.
Also, ppl were able to create his camera mod in only a few hrs.
@heartbeat134340@SacrificialMods His defense to paywall the Paralives mod was that it wasn’t easy, but it couldn’t have taken him more than 2 days.
Then his next defense was “yes the devs said free updates/DLC, but the devs got paid” as if he wasn’t earning at LEAST $25K/month from his supporters already
@heartbeat134340@SacrificialMods Yes. The doubling down, hiding any free alternative and then directing people to his instead, blocking anyone who even slightly or politely questions things, and his alleged modder wife also blocking everyone too, while having a $23/month mod in early access for over 6 years…
@SacrificialMods For sure, I agree. But so far, his responses have been to block everyone, hide free alternatives, and direct ppl to use his instead. His # of supporters has grown +200 since.
People are not reacting to imaginary actions and assumptions. They’re reacting to his real actions.
@ttsumiii@SacrificialMods At the start of this discourse, he was making at least $25K a month ($300K/year). His supporters have been growing hundreds since then.
People have been side eyeing this situation so heavily bc he’s actively hiding a free solution from people and directing people to pay for his.
@SacrificialMods All that to say, there should be limits and the people are the ones who set those limits by being vocal. Don’t bully, but calling someone out for greedy decisions and their refusal to take responsibility for it, choosing instead to block, hide, and continue to take $$$, is valid.
@SacrificialMods Someone asked what would happen if the mod becomes obsolete b4 public release, he said, “everyone wins”… but that would mean ppl paid, he got $$$, and they’s end up not even needing it in the end, so that statement feels off when it was his decision to paywall it for so long.
@SacrificialMods I get your sentiment, but this is more than just “he made a mistake by paywalling that mod.” How he handled the situation contributed to everyone’s reaction.
Blocking anyone who slightly questions things, hiding comments, accusing someone of sharing a “hit piece” on him, etc.
@SacrificialMods “A single mistake” doesn’t seem accurate in this situation, but sure, doesn’t make him a terrible person.
Calling him an antagonist is a stretch, but let’s not pretend like this whole thing was just one simple mistake and minimize the actual issue.
@Real_Hunter14 And for the record, I’ve never donated to TwistedMexi or paid for their CAW tool at all. I didn’t even know how much their tiers cost until recently. If I want their stuff, I know how to get it free.
Let’s put our thinking caps on before trying to make a “gotcha”
@Real_Hunter14 If you actually read through what this issue is about, it was never about donating to modders. Donations are completely fine. No one said that modders can’t make any money at all. It’s about greedy, capitalistic practices.
As soon as I saw she agreed with THAT stuff, I was out.
