It is unfortunate that some Arab and Islamic countries have chosen political pressure over constructive engagement with Somaliland. Somaliland remains committed to its sovereign decisions and peaceful cooperation, our relation with Israel is important and based on mutual interests, and continue to grow in a stable and constructive direction.
It’s important to remember the legacy of Daud Aweys Geedow’s father, Aweys Geedow. Under Siyad Barre, he played a central role in the Isaaq genocide, responsible for the killing of thousands. We cannot move forward without acknowledging these atrocities.
@RepOfSomaliland
Countries openly opposing our relations with Israel are mistaken and strategically miscalculating our capabilities in geography, solid political stability and natural resources.
We are sovereign, free country that independently develops its foreign policy choices, and have long fulfilled the necessary political and institutional benchmarks.
Our partnership with like minded partners, including US and Israel will continue to deepen in a constructive manner and contribute positively to the evolving geopolitical landscape of the region.

I wish to express my sincere and profound gratitude to Congressman John W. Rose and his colleagues for introducing the draft legislation H.R. 7993 (The Somaliland Economy Access and Opportunity Act) before the United States Congress.
For 35 years, Somaliland has been unfairly locked out of global financial systems, despite its stability, democratic credentials, and strategic importance.
THIS BILL IS A GAME CHANGER!!
It opens the door for Somaliland to access international banking, attract investment, and fully participate in the global economy. More than that, it sends a clear signal: Somaliland can no longer be ignored.
This is not just economic progress; it is a strategic step forward in Somaliland’s rightful place in the world.
This proposed legislation represents a significant and forward-looking shift. It signals a growing recognition within key international policy circles that Somaliland’s economic inclusion is not only justified, but necessary.
Fascinating! Two millennia before peace & good governance as well as the partnership between the Rep. of #Somaliland & the #UAE🇦🇪’s @DP_World made #Berbera the finest port on the eastern coast of #Africa, the region was already a trade hub between the Roman & Parthian empires.
The President of Somaliland @Abdirahmanirro : "If the unity of Somalia is required, then Djibouti must join Somalia. It was part of it. The Somali state of Ethiopia was part of Somalia. The NFD, the Northeastern Kenya, was part of #Somalia. If the word 'unity' means Somalis uniting, then they have to join all Somalis.
Recognition late last year of Somaliland as a sovereign state, first by Israel, was decades in the making. But it is a significant development that I hope will draw increased attention in Washington to the resource-rich land. Recognition by a close U.S. partner underscores Somaliland’s more than 30 years of effective self-governance and relative stability in a volatile region. Given its strategic location along the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, its openness to security cooperation along with its wealth of gemstones, precious metals, industrial minerals and energy sources, Somaliland presents a compelling case for deeper U.S. engagement.

To my fellow citizens of the Republic of Somaliland, home & abroad, I extend my sincere greetings and appreciation, and convey my best wishes for enduring peace, stability, and prosperity.
Today, at the Presidential Palace, I received
@gidonsaar H.E. Mr. Gideon Sa’ar, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Israel, and a high-level delegation on an official visit to the Republic of Somaliland, the first such visit by a foreign minister in 34 years after recognition. I conveyed my deep appreciation to the Government of Israel for its historic and courageous decision of 26 December 2025 to formally recognize the Republic of Somaliland. This milestone reflects a relationship founded on mutual respect and shared interests, aimed at cooperation and stability without prejudice to any party.
I emphasized that this recognition opens a new chapter of formal diplomatic relations, security, economic, and development cooperation, serving the mutual interests of both nations and contributing positively to peace and stability in the Horn of Africa.
I also reaffirmed that Somaliland is a reliable and responsible partner, strategically positioned and committed to advancing regional and international peace, security, and constructive engagement.
Forever grateful to the UAE for its partnership with the people of Somaliland. Your vision has helped sustain peace, progress and hope. We honour this enduring bond. 🇦🇪
Opinion
“Somaliland” is the symbol of Somalia’s failed state since 1991, where the authorities couldn’t provide a safe, decent life, militias spread, security collapsed, and the central state fell apart. The UAE has been the most active country trying to help. Since the Houthi takeover, Yemen is now entering its own ‘Somaliland’ phase — it will never be unified again.
