Mooncake Festival 2026. My thanks to the Manchester Hong Kong Community for sharing some Mooncakes with me as they celebrate the autumn festival. Hasten the day when Hong Kong people can celebrate without fear.
These outrageous prison sentences in Hong Kong expose, yet again, the malign and tyrannical nature of the CCP. We must stand with the unjustly imprisoned protesters, and emulate Tiananmen’s tank man, in standing against Communist dictatorship and with the great Chinese people in their struggle for democracy and freedom.

BREAKING: Three activists who once organised annual vigils to mark the 1989 Tiananmen crackdown crackdown have been sentenced to up to seven years and three months in prison.
In full: https://t.co/iInwRhOw1w
Appearing before a panel of designated judges at the West Kowloon Law Courts Building on Friday, Chow Hang-tung, Lee Cheuk-yan, and Albert Ho were handed the jail terms for inciting subversion under a Beijing-imposed national security law.
Lee received a jail sentence of seven years, Chow was jailed for seven years and three months and Ho – who pleaded guilty – received a sentence of five years and two months imprisonment.
The trio formerly led the Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements of China, a now-defunct activist group that held annual vigils to remember the Tiananmen dead. The Alliance itself was handed a fine of HK$1.5 million on Friday, to be paid within three months.

China has approved an updated National Defense Mobilization Law, which will take effect on October 1.
It spells out what happens the moment Beijing declares mobilization.
Every man aged 18 to 60 and every woman aged 18 to 55 is on the hook for "national defense service." Anyone with special technical skills has no age limit at all.
Every organization and individual must hand over vehicles, equipment, buildings and land when the government requisitions them.
The government can take control of banking, transport, telecom, the internet, energy, water, food supply and the press in any mobilized region.
Refuse, and county officials can order you to comply, then force you to.
The old 2010 law only allowed mobilization over sovereignty, unity, territory or security. The updated 2026 version adds a new trigger: China's "development interests."
.@MarkLClifford on the bravery of #HongKong#PoliticalPrisoner Chow Hang-tung, who continues to speak out no matter what the regime tries to do to silence her. https://t.co/81dGCzF7FW
On Aug. 31, 2019, police stormed the Prince Edward MTR station, using batons and tear gas against unarmed passengers.
Seven years later, not a single police officer has been held accountable for the violence of that night.
Questions remain unanswered. What happened inside Prince Edward station after journalists were forced to leave? What happened beyond the viewfinders?
What we do know is this: Hong Kongers were met with violence for speaking up and defending the freedoms they'd been promised.
Later, these words appeared on the walls of the station: “There is no hero descending from heaven, only ordinary people stepping up.” A reminder of the courage of ordinary Hong Kongers who refused to stay silent.
Remember 831.
The police brutality towards unarmed citizens at the Prince Edward MTR station on 31 August seven years ago left an indelible scar on the people of #HongKong.
Today, we commemorate the ‘8.31 incident’ not only to stand in solidarity with the victims, but also to remind the world about the tragic transformation of Hong Kong into a police state, to ensure that Hong Kong stands on the international agenda.
As remembrance of key anniversaries like this has become increasingly dangerous for those in Hong Kong, it is vital that those of us who have freedom continue to do so on their behalf. We continue to call for accountability from responsible officials for past and ongoing human rights violations.
My response to the shameless response by the @hkpoliceforce on 1 September 2019 after the shameless attacks of civilians on 31 August 2019. #HongKong#NeverForget
@cazjwheeler 59-years ago on 29 August 1967 PRC Embassy staff attacked London police and journalists with an axe and iron bars outside the Chinese mission in Portland Place, Marylebone.
[footage from my 2025 film 'Nixon Addendum', screened at Hoxton Arches Hackney earlier this year]
@cazjwheeler CCP diplomats are thugs. This will never change. Peter Johns' photo of PRC Mission staff outside their office attacking Londoners in Portland Place, Marylebone 1967. Journalists and police were attacked with an axe & iron bars, some ending up in hospital.
New: Watch footage of Chinese embassy guards in London brandishing electroshock weapons at protesters.
London and Beijing are now embroiled in a diplomatic row over the incident, which is also being investigated by police.

Pay attention. Chinese guards also have these prohibited weapons at Royal Mint Court - the site of the new embassy. I have seen the film.
This is particularly timely because, in the judicial review against the mega-embassy we're fighting, the government case rests on China abiding by UK laws (our argument is that this assumption is irrational in light of recent behaviour).
From Belfast, where the Chinese Consulate built an unlawful development, to Manchester, where the Consul General assaulted a Hong Konger, to London, where guards carry prohibited weapons, Beijing has repeatedly shown contempt for our laws, and willingness to hide behind diplomatic immunity and inviolability.
And that's before you get to the rampant interference. @andyburnham and @AngelaRayner should concede the embassy judicial review and put this mad idea to bed.
