Eritrea Appoints Its First Female Minister of Education

#Eritrea has appointed Dr. Halima Mohammed the former Director of Assessment and National Examinations, as the country’s first female Minister of Education marking a historic milestone in the nation’s education sector.

Dr. Halima Mohammed brings decades of experience in education, assessment, and academic leadership. She earned her master’s degree in the United Kingdom and completed her doctorate with great distinction. Fluent in Tigrinya, Saho, Arabic, and English, she began her career as an English-language teacher more than two decades ago.

She is married and a mother of four. From the age of 14, Dr. Halima attended Sewra School under the Eritrean People’s Liberation Front (EPLF), an experience that helped shape her commitment to national service and education.

It has also been elected as one of the Vice-Presidents of the UN General Assembly’s 81st session, which runs from September 2026 to September 2027.

The Eritrean National Football Team is gearing up in Meknes, Morocco, for their big comeback in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers!

26 players strong - 12 home-based + 14 diaspora talents has kicked off intense training sessions. Local players started right away, with diaspora pros now joining the camp and getting fully involved today!

This marks Eritrea's first competitive international action in years, facing Eswatini in the first leg on March 25 at Stade d’Honneur.
