Oil, gas, fertilizer, and electricity. These mega projects worth 10 billion USD herald an era of prosperity for Somali Region and Ethiopia. The sad paradox of people wallowing in poverty while sitting on wealth is about to become a lamentable history. Peace, thriving businesses, jobs, and mega projects replace yesterday’s conflict, trade blockages, rampant unemployment, and marginalization.
Following our visit to the Vietnam Toyo Solar site and our discussion with the President, who had promised they would begin producing solar panels, we are pleased to see that they are now producing solar cells at their plant within the Hawassa Industry Park. The facility boasts impressive quality, large-scale capacity, and a highly automated system. This operation is expected to contribute a significant share to manufacturing exports. While two additional facilities are still under construction, today we reviewed the one that has already become operational. This aligns strongly with our investment strategy, which focuses on value-added projects that meet our set targets and policies, representing truly game-changing investments.
Welcome to #Ethiopia, my brother Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, ahead of the Second United Nations Food Systems Summit, which we are proud to host. Ethiopia and Somalia share deep-rooted historical, cultural, and diplomatic ties, and we remain committed to strengthening our brotherly relations.
Opening up the political space was a pivotal decision we made in 2018. Since then, we have worked to foster a democratic environment—shifting from a long-standing posture of viewing parties as opposition to embracing them as legitimate competitors. This transformation is grounded in the belief that nurturing a culture of peaceful political contestation is vital to Ethiopia’s future.
In line with this commitment, we have sustained ongoing dialogue platforms over the years with the numerous political parties registered by the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia. Once again, as part of a series of stakeholder consultations I have been conducting over the past week, today’s discussions continued with political parties to gather input on the various concerns they raise on behalf of their constituencies.

Together with First Lady Zinash Tayachew, we celebrated the inauguration of the Jigjiga Flour and Bread Factory. This remarkable project is one of the many pro-poor initiatives led by the Office of the First Lady and marks the eighth out of twelve factories being built across the country. A step forward in our journey towards sustainable development and support for our communities.
