The hardest part of being a Bi-Voc Pastor is the context switching.

One moment you're a sheep with your brothers, quick to admit your faults and mistakes. You even take responsibility for the faults of others.

Next moment you're on an office teams call and you have to be sharp like a serpent not to admit a fault that's not fully yours so that the colleague that doesn't really fancy you doesn't use it against you.

That's just one example. There's loads of others.

The hardest part is not all the work you're doing.

The hardest part is psychological. The context switching is jarring.

There's a dignity to being Bi-Voc that is nice. Like Paul at some points, it helps your spine to be strong to tell people the truth without putting pressure on people and hindering ministry.

But there's also the simplicity and focus and ease that comes with being Mono-Vocational.
