SECURITY FORCES UNCOVER INDIGENOUS PEOPLE OF BIAFRA/EASTERN SECURITY NETWORK ARMS CACHE IN ENUGU

Troops of 82 Division Garrison operating under Sector 1, Operation UDO KA, in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), Enugu State Command, have achieved a significant operational success in the ongoing Operation EASTERN SANITY II in an effort to consolidate the peace building process in the South East.

On 9 June 2026, acting on credible intelligence derived from previously arrested suspects affiliated with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), security forces conducted a precision follow-up operation in Gariki, Enugu South Local Government Area. Troops uncovered a clandestine arms hideout concealed within a zinc structure disguised as a piggery. A thorough exploitation of the site led to the recovery of a substantial cache of weapons and ammunition. These include General Purpose Machine Guns, RPG-7 launcher tube, AK-47 rifles, hand grenades, tear gas gun with cartridges, AK-47 magazines, 270 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, and 478 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition.

All recovered items and arrested suspects have been handed over to the DSS Enugu State Command for further investigation and appropriate legal action.

This intelligence-driven operation underscores the effective interagency collaboration in the region, resulting in proactive measures to counter threats to national unity and public safety. It also reflects the Operation UDO KA’s unwavering commitment to sustaining offensive actions against criminal and terrorist networks that undermine peace in the region.

OGUN POLICE DETECTIVES UNCOVER TRANSNATIONAL FAKE KIDNAPPING SYNDICATE, ARREST EIGHT FOREIGN NATIONALS OVER STAGED ABDUCTION AND RANSOM FRAUD

Detectives attached to Ifo Division of the Ogun State Police Command, led by CSP Olabisi Kamorudeen, the Divisional Police Officer have uncovered a transnational criminal syndicate involved in a carefully coordinated fake kidnapping scheme designed to extort ransom from unsuspecting families abroad. The operation led to the arrest of eight foreign nationals, namely Zakaria Zawadogo ‘M’ aged 34yrs, Burkina Faso; Cheik El-Mehdi ‘M’ aged 23yrs, Mauritania; Suren Neta ‘F’ aged 25yrs, Ivory Coast; Koffi Breno ‘M’ aged 36yrs, Ivory Coast; Gondo Treso ‘M’ aged 32yrs, Ivory Coast; Kunuji Ezekiel ‘M’ aged 27yrs, Republic of Benin; Kougasi John ‘M’, Ivory Coast; and Hemue Blinsi ‘M’ aged 30yrs, Côte d’Ivoire. The suspects were arrested during an intelligence-led operation in Adiyan Town, Agbado Area of Ogun State following credible intelligence and sustained surveillance into a reported kidnapping incident that was later uncovered to be a staged abduction.

The breakthrough followed a report received on June 6, 2026, from a concerned informant, who alerted the Police that a 23-year-old Mauritanian national, Cheik El-Mehdi, had contacted his family abroad in May 2026 claiming he had been kidnapped in Nigeria and demanding ransom for his release. Shortly after, another suspect, Zakaria Zawadogo, reinforced the demand with threats that the victim would be killed if the ransom was not paid.

Upon receipt of the complaint, detectives of Ifo Division immediately activated intelligence-driven investigation. This swift response proved decisive in uncovering the location of the suspects and preventing what could have resulted in a successful cross-border financial crime.

The technical intelligence report revealed that the suspects were operating from a hideout in Adiyan Town, Agbado Area of Ogun State. Acting on this intelligence, operatives were swiftly mobilized to the location where Zakaria Zawadogo was arrested. He subsequently led detectives to the syndicate’s hideout, resulting in the arrest of Cheik El-Mehdi, Suren Neta, and five other foreign nationals.

All suspects were taken into custody, while the premises were secured and thoroughly searched in line with due process.

Preliminary findings revealed that the operation was a coordinated criminal enterprise involving the deliberate staging of a kidnapping scenario to defraud the victim’s family. It was further established that Suren Neta lured Cheik El-Mehdi into Nigeria, while Zakaria Zawadogo coordinated the ransom demands and issued threats to compel payment. The purported victim was also found to have actively participated in the orchestration of the fake abduction.

The principal suspects, Zakaria Zawadogo, Cheik El-Mehdi, and Suren Neta, have all confessed to their involvement in the conspiracy, while further investigation is ongoing to determine the full extent of the syndicate’s operations and possible links to other transnational criminal networks.

The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet and further investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, psc, FCSS, MNIPR, commends the professionalism, discipline, and swift response of the detectives under CSP Olabisi Kamorudeen, whose intelligence-led action exposed and dismantled the criminal scheme.

The CP notes that the case highlights the increasing sophistication of transnational criminal activities and reaffirms the Command’s commitment to proactive policing, intelligence gathering, and sustained operations against organized crime.

He reassures members of the public that Ogun State remains a hostile environment for criminal elements and that the Command will continue to strengthen internal and cross-border collaboration to ensure public safety.

Troops of Operations ENDURING PEACE and SAVANNAH SHIELD have reportedly disrupted kidnapping attempts, rescued victims and arrested suspected terrorist informants across Plateau, Kaduna and Niger States.

These are not things that happen by magic. Men are risking their lives daily in forests and dangerous territories most online activists can never survive for one hour inside.

On June 5 alone, troops reportedly foiled several kidnapping attempts across Plateau and Kaduna and immediately went after the fleeing criminals instead of folding their arms.

Then on June 6, troops operating around the Doro axis in Borgu area of Niger State arrested suspected informants linked to bandit and terrorist activities.

A lot of Nigerians still don’t understand that these informants are part of the reason insecurity keeps surviving. Some of these criminals don’t operate alone. They have people supplying information, movement details and support from within communities.

This is exactly why some of us keep saying that fighting insecurity is not only about carrying guns. Intelligence gathering, tracking informants and cutting communication networks between these criminals matter a lot too.

Our security forces are not perfect, nobody is saying they are. But the dangerous attempt by some people to constantly destroy public confidence in the military for political reasons is wicked and irresponsible.

There are soldiers sleeping inside forests tonight while many fake news merchants are sleeping peacefully in their houses typing propaganda with cheap data and WiFi.
