@Nilani5000818@MHR5000818 I agree - and what a powerful thing to understand, not just in theory but through our weeks of experience that building rapport and connection must always be the first step of assessment and treatment for clients/patients no matter the setting.
indigenous youth are profoundly failed by our govt and I have witnessed the trickle down of this on plcmnt. does anyone has a hopeful story? https://t.co/ml6DnooNFB
@emily_5000818@MHR5000818 yes re: fleeing in community MH setting - if we can't see the patient we can't conduct an assessment and without this it becomes problematic to use the MHA. this is when we often rely on family collateral info to assess risk, but if alone on run seems options for action minimal
@sana5000818@MHR5000818 things like touching taps to check they're turned off, touching stove to see the gas is off, checking door handles to check they are locked - like hundreds of times a day and night. sometimes with "magical sequencing" - like using lucky numbers.
@sana5000818 I've met three consumers with OCD Sana. What I found surprising to see was the behavioural element. As well as their rituals/physical compulsions, their need to repeat their thoughts and ideas was notable: it was very hard to interrupt them or say goodbye! @MHR5000818
Therapeutic technique preceptor taught me 4 clients who catastrophise things, good for grounding sense of time. "Imagine water bill is $50 more than usual, how would you feel? Imagine how you would feel in two weeks? Now imagine how you would feel in three months?" @MHR5000818
@ayodya5000818@MHR5000818 yes I imagine it would. I attended info presentation by 2 legal members and 1 community member of a tribunal. They emphasised they carry out inquisitorial jurisdiction as opposed to criminal, and importance of consumer understanding this - often they feel criminalised.
I think this IG accnt of artist + trauma survivor Bunny Michael is an intriguing mix of social media, self-love as political act + art practice. They've copped criticism in regards to dispensing "advice" without being a practitioner - what do you think? https://t.co/VS54pBRVoT
@Marcelle50008 Strikes me here when she talks abt the following depression and recovery period - exhaustion, feelings of hopelessness, guilt & stigma must tie in with so many of the disorders we've covered. @MHR5000818
@Jenny5000818@elise5000818@MHR5000818 TY for sharing! pop music holds such a powerful influence on what is "possible" in many ways. kinda disappointed in vid, as it re-enforces homo-normative ideals of marriage/baby as somehow delivering protagonist from life of shame - this idea can b damaging 4 many young queers.
Anyone read Brain on Fire by Susannah Cahalan? Snez' lecture today made me remember - she is eventually diagnosed with anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis, symptoms incl. delusions, hallucinations, severe paranoia. Thinking about complex ties bw physiology, emotions, brain function.
@Bear5000818 @MHR5000818 Thanks for this - if anyone hasn't seen Louis Theroux's "The Most Hated Family in America" you definitely should - it's deeply disturbing. I think their world view might be an example of splitting (I wonder if there is communal/community splitting?) https://t.co/5CWa6H5zzA
Today's film reminded of this Tanzanian "laughing epidemic" in the 60's - similarly, a virus was suspected but when bloods were taken, nothing was detected. https://t.co/K5oZGcxjFs
