@Boro_Breakdown@danamalt@MattPB_ Yeah one hundred percent agree. The game as a whole. Getting our noses in front but missing a hatful of chances, Hackney getting injured, last minute equaliser. There was a feeling of ‘if we can’t win when we play that well’ it was not going to end well.
@BoroHistory He deserves an opportunity to build his own squad. There are a few red flags but i don’t think that’s a result of his limitations more the fact the squad was limited. My main worry is that we got the small margins initially under KH though defensive solidarity built by Edwards
@untypicalboro@reluctantnicko Has one of the most underused but most valuable skills in the modern game; the first time pass especially first time through ball (exactly we needed in those slew of home games)
@Boro_Breakdown Thought he was done after the previous season but suits the hellberg system. Critical we have a central defender comfortable at starting the attacks, through breaking the press etc. can be suspect against ball behind and physical strikers - needs fry alongside him.
@Boro_Breakdown Superb season. Really consistent, good balance of defensive capabilities and attacking threat, although his final ball has been maybe his biggest downfall. Great engines means he adds extra man further up the pitch. Think he works better in back 4 though.
@Boro_Breakdown Think we have to remember it’s his breakthrough season at championship level. But there can be no denying he’s made too many mistakes, which for a keeper or striker are far more damaging. 100% keep him though, with competition from a new keeper could improve.
@louorns@GraemeBandeira Who would you go for Luke to get it right, from an objective perspective? I agree keeper, striker, one on one winger, left back and Hackney replacement as the priority
@SmoggyBalboa Agreed. I’d push the boat out for Guiu but it might be pie in the sky. That said doubt Man City will let mukasa go permanently, so be a loan.
I was wondering about Karlsson style of play. We need someone who can break the line with runs or passes, Hackney could do both.
@ShaunyRye@redarmi123 I’m tempted to deep dive into on a less sunny day, it feels like almost every shot is unique in its own way so applying a probability to it is flawed. Btw, i like xG as a guide, better than shots or certainly possession, but i suspect it inflates certain variables.
@ShaunyRye@redarmi123 So many of our ‘big’ chances have been blocked, maybe xG doesn’t take that into account, or certainly well enough anyway. I don’t think KH takes xG as verbatim as i do think we need to create better chances than we do (especially against low block teams)
@ShaunyRye@redarmi123 The goal against Hull; we’d got into that position multiple times all game but the delivery, the error (haven’t had the courage to see it back yet) and the aggression to get to the ball first are maybe too nuanced to be picked up by xG.
@redarmi123@ShaunyRye Yeah i think what I’m trying to say, but not not very well is that our xG is higher than the opposition in most games (as well as shots and shots OT) but we consistently don’t convert. You could say we’re doing well, unlucky or you could say it’s what needs addressing as priority
@craig_johns One hundred percent agree on the solid foundations but because of the lack of strength in depth we may see more movement this summer than we have in a long time (and we’ve had some active summers). Think there could be as many as ten out and ten in. Could make for a slow start.
