This is the 2nd time during this #7in60 chasing the continents challenge where @almaasinobi missed a flight option simply because some immigration needed to confirm a visa she already had.

1. Happened with Schengen visa in Punta Cana, when she was trying to get an alternate flight to Frankfurt
2. Happened again on flight to Perth from Dubai

It’s already an incredibly difficult process to get a visa as a Nigerian but then an extra 1 hour to 40 mins spent confirming the visa simply because you have a Nigerian passport is incredibly cruel.

That’s not even touching the number of flights options she couldn’t take because she just didn’t have the visa for it. Same countries where other nationalities just had to show up at the airport.

Always rooting for Alma and every other African and Nigerian trying make strides in this world regardless of the passport disadvantages stacked against them, but it’s time we had a broader conversation about passport handicap. Think of the number of people who have missed life-changing opportunities despite having top qualifications and skills, simply because of the lottery of birth and passport.

In this 2025, there has to be better mechanisms for verifying people in a way to give them travel access than this antiquated process we currently use. Is it time for maybe a global access verification system maybe, where people can verify periodically and get access.
