We had the best day today taking part in Purple Friday for @LGBTYS! The bake sale was a huge hit and our committee, alongside staff, walked 5.4km for the Pass the Torch relay. A huge success! โบ๏ธ๐ณ๏ธโโง๏ธ๐ณ๏ธโ๐ @Ayr_Academy2016@LGBTYS

We are so excited for Purple Friday tomorrow! Don't forget to wear something purple and bring in a donation. There will also be a delicious bake sale at break and our LGBT committee will be taking part in the Pass the Torch Relay all to raise funds for @LGBTYS ๐ ๐ณ๏ธโ๐๐ณ๏ธโโง๏ธ
One of the ways we are raising funds for #purplefriday this year is by taking part in a 5K sponsored walk as part of their Pass the Torch appeal! Any donations to sponsor the committee and staff walking on Friday would be greatly appreciated ๐ณ๏ธโ๐ https://t.co/llSLNvSxJO
Kat was in a relationship of 16 years with partner and club co-founder Laura
Montgomery. Many Scottish football personalities shared messages of love
and support for Laura and family after Katโs passing in early 2019.
Our chosen #LGBTHM22 icon this week is Katharina Lindner. Katharina was born in Germany and grew up there. She played football
and joined FFC Frankfurt when she was 16 years old.
Katharina obtained her PhD at Glasgow University and spent most of her years
as a Media, Communications and Culture lecturer at the University of Stirling,
specialising in gender, sport and queer theory.
In 2009 the government apologised for what had happened to Alan, and in 2013 Queen Elizabeth II signed a posthumous royal pardon for Turingโs conviction, meaning everything he went through for being a gay man would be absolved.
In the early 1950โs Turing was charged with gross indecency when he was known to have had relations with a man, he was given a choice which was either imprisonment or hormonal treatments equivalent to chemical castration.
Marshaโs life was dedicated to helping people and she said her ambition was โto see gay people liberated and free, and to have the same rights that other people haveโ.
February is LGBTQ+ History Month! In celebration, twice a week for the whole of February, we are going to share some of the significant people in LGBTQ+ history. To kick off the month we have chosen one of the most important activists, Marsha P Johnson.
She and Sylvia Riviera founded STAR - Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries, an organisation supporting members of the LGBTQ+ community who have been left homeless.
