Julian Assange struck a plea deal and will go free! I am overjoyed. He's a generational hero.
The bad news is that he had to plea guilty to conspiracy to obtain and disclose national defense info. Which means the US security state succeeded in criminalizing journalism and extending their jurisdiction globally to non-citizens.
Julian had to take this. He has heart problems and he would have died in prison. But the security state has imposed a horrifying precedent and dealt a big blow to freedom of the press.
Great afternoon at parliament yesterday, calling on MPs to protect our members 🙌 Talking cuts and redundancies with @goldsmithsucu rep Yaiza.
The government needs to step up with a legitimate solution to the HE crisis.

With its remit greatly expanded by Brexit, is @CMAgovUK up to the job, asks Maria Shahid @PropJourn via @lawsocgazette.
Our Dr @AysemV is quoted: "The CMA’s power to make a 'pro-competition intervention' ... may lead to a quicker resolution of competition issues", she notes.
So with even the Telegraph admitting that what was called 'Project Fear' was indeed simply the truth can we now face up to the stupidity and lies that drove Brexit and begin the rejoin process for the UK?
1. Our Prof @_lesliethomas KC will be @GoldsmithsUoL next Tue, Oct 11 (17.30, RHB 137) to speak about his wonderfully inspirational autobiography, 'Do Right and Fear No One'.

@birnbaum_e We have the newly formed Digital Regulation Cooperation Forum ( DRCF) in the UK which oversees the activities of the other regulatory bodies in the digital sphere.
More bad news for UK data protection claimants: litigation relating to the Bounty data-sharing scandal, which saw the company share millions of people's data to marketers without telling them, has failed. 🧵⬇️
Had a real pleasure of having been invited by @AysemV@GoldsmithsUoL to deliver a lecture on #rescue and #crossborder#insolvency to 3rd year LLB students. Lovely experience, looking forward to reciprocate the favour next year!
I had requested an interview with the independent chair of the #USS Joint Negotiating Committee, whose casting vote at a crucial meeting this week sealed #pension cuts for thousands of university sector workers.
The request was declined.
Such an excellent letter from @mariafarrell stressing the huge disparity in the salaries of SMT & @FCorner and the rest of staff, the distortion in presenting average not median salaries, and the salaries of precariously employed academic staff. #Goldstrike#NoToRedundancies
