I am grateful to the leadership of the @INCIndia —our guardian, Smt. Sonia Gandhi ji; Hon’ble Congress President, Shri @kharge ji; Jannayak and LoP in Lok Sabha, Shri @RahulGandhi ji; AICC General Secretary (Org.) Shri @kcvenugopalmp ji; AICC General Secretary, Smt. @priyankagandhi ji; and AICC General Secretary, Shri @GAMIR_INC ji—for entrusting me with the responsibility of serving the people of West Bengal and collaborating with the workers and followers of the Congress party as the President of the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee (“WBPCC”).

Having been born and brought up in a small village in Medinipur, I come from a humble background and a freedom fighter family, namely, my grandparents, Late Shri Nagendra Nath Sarkar and Late Smt. Prabhabati Sarkar and my father, Late Shri Debabrata Sarkar have earned their contribution during the independence struggle. I started my political career as a booth agent then went on to serve in student, state and national politics. My appointment as WBPCC President serves as a reminder that the Congress party is a democratic organization of the people, by the people, and for the people. This is not merely an individual’s appointment, but a collective appointment of all Congress workers, as everyone is an equal stakeholder. It will not be about me alone, but “we” Congress workers will always stand with the people and collectively decide on our policies and politics. Decisions adopted by the West Bengal Congress will be based on people’s feedback, internal discussion, and mutual consensus.

I have always been and will remain a worker and staunch follower of the ideology of the Indian National Congress. We participate in politics with the sole objective of assisting people and empowering society. I will always remain committed to every Congress worker and follower of this ideology to achieve our purpose through the party and organization. I will put in my blood, sweat, and toil to strengthen the party in West Bengal and walk every mile to fight for the people of Bengal against fascist forces, binary politics, corruption, unemployment, lack of development and industrialization, violations of women’s safety, exploitation of farmers, upliftment of the education and health system, and the empowerment of all deprived and marginalized members of society. Civil movements after the unfortunate RG Kar incident have highlighted the conscious thinking and power of the people in Bengal. We aim to work with people and move beyond the present polarisation and binary politics. Everyone is welcome to join our movement, and I shall always remain available to the people and workers of the party.

I have been fortunate to work with a few stalwart leaders and former Presidents of the WBPCC, including Late Shri Siddhartha Shankar Roy, Late Shri Pranab Mukherjee, Late Shri Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi, Late Shri ABA Ghani Khan Chowdhury, Late Shri Somen Mitra, Shri Pradip Bhattacharya, and Shri Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury. I hope that I can serve the party to the fullest and to the best of my ability.
