The AZANIAN PEOPLE’S ORGANISATION, (AZAPO) sends condolences to the Lekota family on the passing of their son Moisuoa “Terror” Lekota.

AZAPO learnt with dismay the untimely passing of one of the former stalwarts of the Black Consciousness Movement (BCM) , Moisuoa "Terror" Lekota. Lekota cut his pollical teeth in the BCM, as an industrious activist who contributed to our struggle. He later drifted away from the basic principles of Black Consciousness philosophy and abandoned its mission.

AZAPO salutes the gallant role he played in his early life and the contribution he made to the course of liberating in our country.

AZAPO President Cde @Nelvis_Qekema led a delegation of AZAPO Standing Committee Members comprising of AZAPO Deputy President Cde Dudu Shaba, Secretary General Cde Mbulelo Ketye and AZAPO Secretary for Political Education Cde @pitso_hlasa at the Venezuelan Embassy in South Africa and held a cordial and fruitful meeting with His Excellency Mr Carlos Feo Acevedo.

This followed AZAPO's Message of Solidarity to the people of Venezuela and sharing our letter to FIFA demanding the ban of the US co-hosting the World Cup.

His Excellency briefed the Delegation about the bombardment of Venezuela and the kidnapping of President Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores by the US. About 100 civilians lost their lives, while 32 Cubans who were part of President Maduro's security perished under the US imperialist aggression. He made it clear that the aggression was driven by the US greed and resolve to control the Venezuelan oil.

His Excellency went further to stress the point that the bombardment and the kidnapping went against international law and the UN Charter. Their position is that President Maduro and the First Lady are prisoners of war, and that President Maduro remains the Venezuelan Head of State. Accordingly, Vice President Delcy Rodríguez plays the role of the Acting President.

The demands of the people of Venezuela are that the President and the First Lady must be unconditionally released and returned home without any harm.

AZAPO reiterated it's position about the principled support to the First Family and the people of Venezuela. AZAPO joins the people of Venezuela in calling for the unconditional release of President Maduro and First Lady Flores.

Both the Delegation and the Ambassador agreed that the fight against imperialism required international solidarity of the people's of the world and progressive governments.

A lot is strategic issues we're discussed. At the end of the cordial meeting, AZAPO handed over a signed copy of the book I Write What I Like, a signed copy of our Letter of Solidarity to President Maduro and a copy of the Azanian Manifesto.

🖤🧡❤️ THIS is the Standing Committee of AZAPO for the term 2025-2029.

The hierarchical structure of AZAPO is as follows:

NATIONAL CONGRESS: The highest decision-making body that sits once in 4 years. it is composed of Branches, RECs, PECs, NECs of AZAPO Formations, Standing Committee, Central Committee. Among other things, it elects the members of the Central Committee.

CENTRAL COMMITTEE: The second highest decision-making body after National Congress. It sits 4 times in a year. It is composed of the 9 AZAPO PECs, Standing Committee Members and the Deputies, NECs of AZAPO Formations. The total number of Members is about 150.

STANDING COMMITTEE: While the Central Committee is the Executive Body that governs AZAPO, the Standing Committee is the Administrative Body of the Central Committee. It helps the Central Committee in the day-to-day running of AZAPO. The Standing Committee sits once in a month.

WORKING COMMITTEE: This Body of about 8 Members drawn from the Standing Committee functions as a sweeper with the flexibility to meet on a fortnight basis and tie the loose ends in the work of the Standing Committee.
