His focus isn’t on Malaysia’s future — it’s on his own political survival heading into GE16.

It’s obvious from the populist policies: giving out SARA RM100 twice and cutting RON95 prices for the T20. No sane economist would endorse that.

Government revenue rose 16.5%, from RM294.4 billion in 2022 to a projected RM343.1 billion in 2026, driven by higher and new taxes.

But spending shot up much faster — 41.5%, from RM322 billion to RM470 billion — pushing annual debt-interest costs up 41.2% from RM41.3 billion to RM58.3 billion.

Total government debt and liabilities ballooned by nearly RM300 billion in just two and a half years, from RM1.399 trillion in 2022 to RM1.695 trillion by June 2025.

Revenue up 16.5%. Spending up 41.5%. Interest up 41.2%. Liabilities up RM300 billion.
Is this a responsible direction for Malaysia’s future?
