WHO COMES FIRST IN THE LIFE OF A MUSLIM MAN; His mom or his wife?

Salamun Alykhum Wa Rahmatullah Wa Barakatuhu, before I proceed, this post is for muslims and muslims alone.

One of the most controversial issues In today’s society is the comparison between mothers and wives. Overtime, we’ve seen how people have contrary opinions about it, In Sha Allah, I’ll be doing justice to it in the best of my ability and ofcourse constructive criticisms are welcome, long as it’s not insulting or offensive.

First fact, mothers are the most important figure in everyone’s life, and everyone agreed on this or at least higher percentage of people do agree to it, we have seen Quran verses and Hadith that affirmed the importance of parent, especially mothers in particular, the pregnancy struggle, the breastfeeding and many more, Islam has a lot of regards for mothers to the extent Rosullullah affirmed that paradise lies beneath their feet.

But is your mother still the first person when you’re married? The answer is NO, wait, don’t fidget, just continue reading, before we go far, I know you’ll ask about the Hadith of a man who went to meet Rosullullah about who he should give his best to and he was told his mom 3 times, then his dad, the question there is, was the man a married man? No, he wasn’t, one of the things we know Rosullullah with was that he gives utmost consideration to questioners’ social, religious and sometimes emotional state before giving responses, we’ve seen couple of Hadith where people go and meet Rosullullah for admonition and advice and he told all of them different things and that was because of personalities respectively.

Going by the verse 6 of Quran chapter, Allah said “O you who have believed, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is people and stones” the Arabic word Allah used for family in the verse is أَهْلِيكُمْ and when Sheikh Ibn Kathir and many other scholars explained the word, they translated it to be “wife and children and those that are under you”. First and foremost, your mom is not under you, your mom is under your dad, as much as Islam emphasizes on being good to our parents, it should be noted that you’ll only be accountable for people under you, their welfare and religious inclination and if you fail to train them to the path of Allah, you get punished, if you fail to protect them from social vices, you’ll bear the consequences on the day of qiyãmah. Allah will ask you about your wife and children and will ask your Dad about your mom and you.

Going by one Hadith narrated by Abu Hurayrah, a man meet the messenger of Allah and said I’ve money who should I spend it on and messenger of Allah replied “spend it on yourself, then your child, then your wife, then your extended family”. Going by this Hadith, your parents become extended family immediately you become married, your immediate family are your spouse and children and your are to give them the best of you before anyone else, this is not even about men alone, it’s for women too, as a married woman, your husband comes first before anyone else.

In Quran chapter 4 verse 34 Allah said “Husbands are protector of their wives for provision Allah has given the husband over the wives and they should spend money on them”. Wives not mothers.

Generally speaking, the wives and mom are not be compared because they both serve different purposes in the life of every man, neither of them can replace the other, but WHEN THEIR INTEREST CLASH, your wife is the one Allah asked you to consider first.

Your mom has her husband and other children to take care of her, your wife has only you, and remember your wife was taken away from her own immediate family to come and start matrimony with you.
If anything happens to your mother, Allah will not question you, it’s your father that will be questioned because it’s under your father’s care your mother is to be.

Your wife is to you
Your mom is to your Dad.

I would like to provide an update as relayed by our on-ground teams regarding the warehouse fire at Mandilas Building, Broad Street, Lagos Island.

The fire originated on the 1st floor and got to the 4th. Currently, our brave teams from Ebute Elefun and Sari Iganmu Fire Stations are actively engaged in firefighting operations.

The cause is yet to be determined, but investigations are underway. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported.

I’d like to urge everyone to remain calm as all of our first responders are working hard to bring the situation to a complete halt.

I salute our incredible firefighting teams and other first responders, including security personnel. Your dedication is unmatched as you face this challenge head-on.
