RE: FALSE AND MISLEADING SECURITY ALERT ON ALLEGED THREATS IN IBEJU-LEKKI, IMOTA, OKE-AFO AND OTHER PARTS OF LAGOS STATE
The Lagos State Police Command has seen some viral social media posts and accompanying graphic material falsely alleging that Ibeju-Lekki, Imota, Oke-Afo and other parts of Lagos State are under invasion by armed bandits targeting schools and children.
The Lagos State Police Command categorically states that the claims contained in the circulating posts are false, misleading, unfounded, and intended to create unnecessary fear, panic, and apprehension among residents. There is currently no security crisis, invasion, or coordinated attack on any school or community in Ibeju-Lekki, Imota, Oke-Afo, or any other part of Lagos State. The Command wishes to reassure members of the public that schools across the state remain safe, while the Police and other security agencies continue to maintain adequate security presence and surveillance in all communities.
Regrettably, the spread of this false alarm has already resulted in a tragic and avoidable loss of life, of one Kulaha Ayuba ‘m’, aged 24 years, a commercial motorcycle rider, some youths of the community, acting on the false and unverified belief that armed bandits had invaded the area, allegedly labelled him a Fulani bandit, attacked and fatally assaulted him. His motorcycle was reportedly stolen, while his body was subsequently discovered in a swamp within the community. Following the swift Police intervention, fifteen (15) suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident and are currently under investigation. The Command assures the public that all those found culpable will be made to face the full weight of the law.
The Command condemns the deliberate dissemination of unverified information capable of causing chaos, inciting public disorder, and promoting ethnic profiling, mob action, or hatred against any group of people. Residents are advised to disregard such posts and refrain from sharing materials whose authenticity has not been verified through official channels. The Command has consistently warned against the spread of false information and fake news capable of jeopardising public peace and security.
Furthermore, individuals found responsible for originating, publishing, or deliberately circulating false and inciting information capable of causing public alarm, disorder, ethnic tension, or violence will be investigated and prosecuted in accordance with applicable laws.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, psc, mnips, urges residents to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding while continuing with their lawful activities without fear. Members of the public are encouraged to report any suspicious activity through the nearest police station or established emergency channels rather than relying on unverified social media content.
The Command remains fully committed to the protection of lives and property and assures all Lagosians that adequate security measures have been emplaced across the state to sustain the peace and security currently being enjoyed.

One of the heaviest burdens as a father raising children is the unchecked wave of indecency and social vices that have become the everyday backdrop of our public spaces. Eateries, supermarkets, markets, streets, and beaches; places that should be neutral grounds for family outings have turned into open arenas where moral boundaries are blurred or completely erased whilst social vices are now the new normals.
You take your kids out for a simple meal, and right there in the booth next to you, a young lady is dressed in ways that leave nothing to the imagination, while companions and others engage in loud, vulgar conversation laced with profanity that no child should hear. Walk into a supermarket on a Saturday, and the aisles are filled with music videos blasting explicit content on the screens, teenagers openly displaying affection that borders on the obscene, and adults who should know better laughing it off like it’s normal.
The markets? Even worse. Hawkers, traders, and passers-by throw around language and gestures that make you instinctively cover your children’s ears and hurry them along. The streets are no sanctuary either.
From Victoria Island to Lekki and everywhere in between, the beaches that used to be refreshing escapes have become spectacles of moral decline; half-naked bodies on full display, public intoxication, and scenes that make you question what kind of society we are building.
Anyone grounded in strong cultural and family values will be deeply disturbed. The danger is not just what they see once in a while. It is the slow, constant exposure that normalizes indecency and moral decadence in public places, where people of different ages assemble and interact.
Children begin to think this is how adults behave. That revealing dressing is fashion. That vulgarity is confidence. That disrespect for personal boundaries is freedom. Before you know it, the foundation you are trying to build at home starts cracking under the weight of the streets.
For anyone who pays enough attention, you see the downstream effects every day, broken homes, rising cases of exploitation, loss of dignity, and a generation that is losing its sense of shame.
We must refuse to pretend this is not happening. Many parents are quietly battling the same thing and shielding their children while trying not to make them feel like outsiders in their own city. We monitor what they watch, the friends they keep, the routes we take, and still, the environment fights us at every turn.
We cannot continue like this. Those who still hold firm to decency, character, and responsibility must speak up louder. We must raise our children with even stronger counter-values at home. We must demand better from our communities, our leaders, and the businesses that profit from turning public spaces into moral free-for-alls.
Our lands have so much potentials, beautiful, vibrant, full of opportunities but we are losing our soul if we allow this decay to continue unchecked.
Fellow parents, especially those rooted in tradition and faith, let us not sleep on this. Our children are watching. The question is: what kind of adults will they become if we do not fight for their innocence in the middle of this chaos?
One of the most dangerous things happening on social media today is the deliberate spread of fake security alerts, recycled videos of bandits that were neutralized years ago, and fabricated kidnap stories designed to trigger panic and outrage.
Every day, people circulate old videos as if they happened yesterday. Others manufacture stories of kidnappings and attacks that never occurred. When security agencies, or people expose the falsehood, the same people quietly delete their posts and move on, with no consequences for the fear, confusion, and anxiety they have already created.
The unfortunate consequence is that citizens are gradually becoming desensitized. When genuine security threats emerge, many people now struggle to distinguish between real alerts and fabricated stories.
Government must begin to take the deliberate spread of false security information more seriously. Individuals who knowingly circulate fake security reports capable of causing panic should face appropriate sanctions under existing laws. Freedom of expression should not be confused with the freedom to spread falsehoods that endanger public order.
A society where everyone is constantly crying wolf will eventually ignore the real wolf when it appears. We cannot afford that. Security is too important to be sacrificed on the altar of clout, politics, engagement farming, or social media relevance.
No matter how well you raise your children, they are still potential victims of those who didn’t raise theirs right. You can teach your kids respect, discipline, values, and good character; but one poorly raised child in the same school, street, or neighbourhood can introduce violence, entitlement, bullying, or moral decay into their world.
PRESS RELEASE
OYO POLICE COMMAND ARRESTS SUSPECTS OVER FALSE BANDIT ATTACK ALARM IN LAMINI COMMUNITY, WARNS AGAINST MISINFORMATION AND DISINFORMATION
The Oyo State Police Command wishes to inform members of the public that it has arrested two suspects in connection with the deliberate dissemination of false information alleging that bandits invaded Lamini Community in Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State and killed six persons.
The Command's attention was drawn to a widely circulated voice note on various WhatsApp platforms and other social media channels claiming that armed bandits had attacked Lamini Community and killed six residents. The publication generated fear, panic, and apprehension among residents and other members of the public, while creating unnecessary tension within and around the affected area.
Upon receipt of the information, the Command immediately mobilized patrol and tactical teams to Lamini Community and its environs to verify the claim, reassure residents, and douse the palpable tension generated by the alarming report. Following a thorough assessment and on-the-ground verification, it was conclusively established that the purported bandit invasion and killing of six persons never occurred. Consequently, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, psc, mnips, directed the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Intelligence Department (SID) to undertake a comprehensive investigation into the origin and dissemination of the false information. The ensuing intelligence-driven investigation, supported by forensic analysis, traced the incriminating voice note to Pastor Amos Joel Muyiwa, who was subsequently arrested.
During interrogation, the suspect admitted to authoring and circulating the voice note without verifying the authenticity of the information. Further investigations revealed that the false alarm originated from one Mulikat Bashiru, who had raised the unfounded claim within the community. She was thereafter identified, traced, and arrested in connection with the matter. Both suspects are currently cooperating with investigators as efforts continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and identify any other persons involved in the creation or propagation of the false narrative.
The Oyo State Police Command views the deliberate spread of false information, fake news, misinformation, and disinformation as a serious threat to public order, national security, and peaceful coexistence. Such actions are capable of triggering panic, undermining public confidence, disrupting socio-economic activities, and diverting critical security resources away from genuine emergencies.
Misinformation and disinformation do not merely mislead the public; they constitute a direct attack on our collective resolve to build a secure and peaceful society. At a time when security agencies, community leaders, and law-abiding citizens are working collaboratively to sustain the prevailing security gains across Oyo State, the deliberate circulation of false narratives serves only to create unnecessary fear, weaken public trust, and create opportunities for criminal elements to exploit public anxiety and confusion.
The Command therefore urges residents to exercise restraint, responsibility, and vigilance in the use of social media and other communication platforms. Members of the public are advised to verify information through credible and official sources before sharing same, as individuals found deliberately originating or disseminating false information capable of causing public disorder will be investigated and prosecuted in accordance with extant laws.

WHAT AN IMPOSSIBLE ENGINEERING!
As Saudi Arabia announces the successful completion of the 2026 Hajj season, with more than 1.7 million pilgrims performing the sacred pilgrimage, it is worth appreciating the remarkable planning, logistics, and engineering that make this spiritual gathering possible year after year.
In this video, my good friend @sai7org takes us on a fascinating tour, explaining some of the incredible infrastructure behind Hajj operations. Particularly interesting is how the enormous amount of water used across the Mashaer, that is, in Mina, Arafat, and Muzdalifah, is transported from desalination plants connected to the sea and distributed efficiently to serve millions of pilgrims, despite the challenging desert environment.
From water systems and transportation networks to crowd management and public services, the Hajj remains one of the greatest logistical operations on earth and an example of what human ingenuity can achieve in the service of faith.
